Let’s keep it real here. If you have a family then laundry is just part of your life. Finding a laundry routine that works for your family can feel daunting, but it doesn’t have to be!
If you’re looking for a new laundry schedule, I’ve got some simple suggestions for you!
This post is sponsored by P&G. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
SHORTEN YOUR LAUNDRY ROUTINE
So the first thing I am going to suggest has to do with thinking of a laundry day in your house.
I mentioned laundry being a daily chore in our house and if yours isn’t, you might find yourself feeling overwhelmed by the chore because it seems like such a huge mountain to tackle (literally, in some cases).
So my biggest piece of advice is to do some laundry related chore each day.
HOW OFTEN TO DO LAUNDRY
The best change I ever made to our laundry routine was to stop saving it for the weekend. Now I do a load of laundry each day of the week.
Yes, we do laundry every single day, but we don’t spend hours tackling it on the weekend and that has made it seem like a much smaller chore.
You don’t have to have a set laundry schedule, you just need to do a load a day so it doesn’t build up.
I will confess that while I’m great at getting a load in the washing machine and pushing it through; I’m not the best at getting everything folded. I’m working on that though because I know it would make it easier.
Letting it all build up never works great for me. It makes me groan and walk away. So a load a day! I highly recommend this approach.
SAVE ON YOUR FAVORITE LAUNDRY PRODUCTS
I used to buy whatever laundry detergent and fabric softener were on sale.
There is something to be said about laundry detergent and fabric softener. I have my favorite products and I’m sure I’m not the only one. So while shopping for cheap prices was great for our budget, it took some joy out of the chore.
I mean chores are enough work as it is but when I do my laundry with my favorite Tide laundry detergent scents, it’s a little bit easier. I never really noticed it until I scored a great deal on my favorite Tide PODS and started using them again. Everyone in the family noticed and mentioned it.
There really is something about using your favorite laundry products that makes it easier to get the laundry done.
If you still want to save money, there are easy ways to get your favorite laundry supplies while you save!

- Downy Unstopables In-Wash Fresh Scented Booster Beads
- Bounce Outdoor Fresh Dryer Sheets
If you like great smelling laundry, these are the fabric care products you need in your life! These are some of our favorites for amazing laundry.
Right now my current laundry routine includes Tide Pods laundry detergent pacs. I love how the 3-in-1 laundry pacs clean, brighten colors, and fight stains all at the same time! I love keeping Tide Original liquid detergent on hand as well.
Bounce Dryer Sheets give us the great classic Bounce outdoor fresh scent that my family loves. There’s definitely a comfort factor that comes with great smelling laundry. I like that the dryer sheets soften fabrics and help repel lint and hair.
Another staple in my laundry room is Ultra Downy April Fresh Liquid Fabric Conditioner. It helps prevent stretching, fading, and fuzz while softening our fabrics.
KEEP IT SIMPLE
Keeping the laundry routine simple is our key to success. So what does this mean exactly?
Here are some of the things I’ve done to simplify our laundry routine:
- Multiple laundry baskets
- Reduce or eliminate sorting
- Spend less time folding
For our family, it means having multiple laundry baskets that are all the same shape and size. I recommend getting laundry baskets that fit about a load of laundry in them. Then put one in each family member’s room.
When the basket is full it goes down to the laundry room and gets put in the washer.
This is an easy way to avoid having to do spend a ton of time sorting clothes.
If you do need to sort, keep it simple. Most of our clothes are okay together but I’ll sometimes sort out sheets and towels for a load on their own. But if you can reduce the time you spend sorting laundry, you’ll shorten your entire laundry schedule!
I know I confessed that I’m not the best at getting our laundry folded each day. But I have done a few things that help me get things done quicker. My biggest tip has to do with socks.
Buy your kids one type of sock. My son has one type of socks and they all look the same. So we don’t spend very much time matching them up because they all match each other! You don’t have to worry about stray socks either! If you can do this for every member of the family, you’ll save so much time just on socks!
The best way to make laundry less overwhelming is to break it down into smaller loads and find the things that work well for your family. Getting the whole family involved is also a great way to tackle laundry in less time which is great for any busy family!
