I’ve been on a mission to try all of the basic foods I can think to put in our air fryer. This means that air fryer hamburgers were a must-try for us! 4 out of the 5 of us are burger fans, so making my own in the air fryer has become one of my go-to meals, especially during busy weeks!
You can make both homemade hamburgers and frozen hamburger patties in an airfryer! It’s one of the easiest ways to get delicious burgers on the table without having to heat up the grill or deal with a ton of grease splattering all over your kitchen. In less than 20 minutes, you can have delicious burgers (with or without cheese) that your family will love any night of the week!

AIR FRYER HAMBURGERS
AIR FRYER HAMBURGERS
There are some basic foods that I count on to make dinners easy around our house. Most of them can be made in the air fryer too! That usually means I can whip up a simple dinner in even less time! My family loves Air Fryer Chicken Legs and they’re so easy to make these days.
The same is now try for burgers because I save time and have less clean up when I use my air fryer!
CAN YOU COOK GROUND BEEF IN AN AIR FRYER?
Absolutely! I wouldn’t be sharing my recipe if it wasn’t a good one to use. You can cook ground beef in the air fryer as burgers and meatloaf (I’ll be sharing that recipe soon!). You can also brown ground beef.
If you just want to brown your hamburger meat, break it up like you would if you were browning it in a pan. Place it in the air fryer basket or on an air fryer safe pan (depending on the model you have).
Cook the meat for 5 minutes at 400 °F. Then check on your ground beef to see if it is completely cooked. If it’s not, stir it and then continue to cook for 1-2 minutes more before checking again.
Once it’s completely cooked, you can use it in your favorite recipes!
CAN YOU MAKE FROZEN HAMBURGERS IN AN AIR FRYER?
This is a 100% yes! If fact, many people start with frozen food when they first get their air fryer. My first foods were frozen french fries and frozen chicken strips because they’re a staple in my son’s life. If you’ve started there and are ready to move on to more frozen foods, hamburgers are a great option.
The prep time is extremely minimal (how quick can you open that bag?) and you’ll have them ready for serving usually in under 20 minutes!
HOW DO YOU FIX HAMBURGERS IN AN AIRFRYER?
The first decision you have to make is whether you’re going to make your own patties or use frozen hamburger patties. Both are easy to do and it’s really just a personal preference. For me, it depends on if I have any frozen patties in the freezer or if I have ground beef I want to use.
I’ve done both and you can fix them both in the air fryer. All you do for both types of burgers is put them in the basket, cook, flip, and cook for a few more minutes. It’s really that simple!
WHAT TEMP DO YOU AIR FRY HAMBURGERS?
I usually cook my burgers at 400 °F in my air fryer. I have some friends who use 375 °F. With air frying, there can often be a bit of trial and error involved as you figure out how your specific model works best.
I’d recommend starting with the 400 °F to make sure you get the meat cooked well. You can start with lower amounts of time if you’re concerned about the temperature.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COOK A HAMBURGER IN AN AIR FRYER?
It takes about 10-16 minutes total to cook hamburger patties made with raw ground beef. If you like your burgers a bit more well-done then cook them for longer. If you like them more medium, then you can cook each side for 5-6 minutes. I recommend cooking each side for 7-8 minutes.
If you’re making frozen hamburgers, you will need to increase the cooking time. I recommend 15-20 minutes total. I break it down to 9-10 minutes per side but sometimes I have to cook them a bit longer to make sure they’re fully cooked in the middle.
Use a food thermometer to make sure the burgers reach an internal temperature of 160 °F to meet USDA food safety standards for hamburgers.
HOW DO YOU COOK A FROZEN HAMBURGER IN AN AIR FRYER?
Frozen burgers are so simple to make.
- Place the desired amount of hamburger patties in the basket. Make sure you leave space around each one. You do not want them to touch at all or be overcrowded.
- Set the air fryer to 400 °F.
- Cook for 9-10 minutes then flip the patties over and cook for an additional 9-10 minutes.
- If you want to add cheese, add immediately after removing from the fryer.
- Let the patties rest for 5 minutes before serving.
They take 18-20 minutes to make with no prep time! That’s an easy meal option!
CAN YOU MAKE FROZEN TURKEY BURGERS IN THE AIR FRYER?
To make frozen turkey burgers, follow the same steps for frozen hamburger patties.
The most important thing to remember if you’re making turkey burgers is to make sure the center is completely cooked. You want them to be fully cooked! I use a food thermometer to make sure they reach an internal temperature of 165 °F.
CAN YOU REHEAT HAMBURGERS IN THE AIR FRYER?
Reheating leftovers is another one of my favorite ways to use my air fryer. If you’ve never heated up leftover fries or pizza and discovered how the fryer can give them renewed life, you have to try it! Seriously! Do it! Soon!
When I’m reheating foods, I usually use a temperature between 350 °F and 400 °F. I put the food in and just cook for about 3-5 minutes.
For air fryer hamburgers, only reheat the hamburger patty! If you want the bun warmed up, do it on its own otherwise you might get some juices from the burger soaking into the bun as it heats up. Put the patty in the basket and cook for 3-4 minutes on 400 °F. Check to see if it’s warm enough for you. If not, cook for an additional minute until it’s to your liking!
EASY AIR FRYER RECIPE
This recipe makes four hamburgers using a pound of ground beef. You can divide your hamburger into smaller amounts to make more patties or make multiple batches if you needed to double the recipe. It takes about five minutes to prep your patties and about 8-10 minutes to cook them depending on your specific air fryer.
I typically use 90% lean ground beef and the nutritional values for this recipe are based on that. You can use your preferred ground beef.
