This childhood cancer awareness post is sponsored by Tackle Kids Cancer but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.
Childhood cancer isn’t something any parent wants to have to face. We all want our children to grow up healthy and strong.
My second year of teaching, there was a little boy in my class who lit up the room. He came to school every single day and was a joy to have in our classroom. At home, his life was very different. His little sister was battling pediatric cancer.
That was the first time that cancer had touched someone young in my life. It hit me hard. It rocked me to the core and that was before I even had kids of my own.
Supporting Childhood Cancer Research
Later that school year, I attended the funeral of my student’s sister. She was three years old and I sat through a memorial service for one of the strongest little people I’ve ever known.
I saw her brother continue on with a strength I couldn’t imagine. He was still a light in our classroom but there was a shadow behind his eyes. Some days were harder than others. His sister had the same light and approach to life, even at her young age.
Childhood cancer is something no child should have to face.
We want our kids to be outside playing, listening to music, dancing, learning, and laughing. We want to watch them begin to grow old.
A Story of Childhood Cancer
Childhood cancer isn’t something any family wants to face.
Victoria is only size years old but she’s very mature. She received a diagnosis quickly and her mother believes that it was key to getting Victoria the treatment she needed to avoid further complications.
Here is Victoria’s story:
Supporting Childhood Cancer Research
Only 4% of government cancer funding goes towards pediatric cancer. But childhood cancer is the number one cause of death by disease in children.
That means that funding is so important. Tackle Kids Cancer provides an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children with cancer.
The holidays are for spending time with the people we love. It’s also a season for giving.
Tackle Kids Cancer is a partnership of dedicated clinicians and researchers, corporate sponsors, and supporters working to advance medical research and find a cure for pediatric cancer. So far, Tackle Kids Cancer has raised $5 million from over 7,000 supporters.
It’s so easy for us all to become supporters and help kids who are fighting cancer. Each year 40,000 kids are treated for cancer. One out of eight do not survive.
You can visit Tackle Kids Cancer to make a donation and give to children in need this holiday season. All of the funds raised are used to support pediatric cancer research and patient care programs occurring at the Children’s Cancer Institute at Hackensack University Medical Center.
