Easy Ways to Make College Apartments Feel Like Home

Just as I was getting ready to graduate from high school and look ahead to college, my little brother was born. Fast forward a bit and he’s getting ready to graduate from high school! So it’s all about the college excitement around here! From the day he got his acceptance letter it’s been fun thinking about everything from the serious like classes he will take to the fun like how to decorate college apartments!

I’m not sure if my brother is as excited about this apartment decorating thing as his sisters are, but we’re going to have a good time getting him all set up!

But there are some things to think about when working with college apartments. The first is that he doesn’t have much furniture to start with and the second is that we don’t even know how long he’ll stay in that specific apartment. But that isn’t stopping us and we’ve come up with some easy ways to  make college apartments feel like home!

    Start with the Basics

Furniture is definitely a basic. For college apartments look for affordable storage solutions so your college kid has as much storage as possible in their space. But then focus on the furniture. Since you don’t know how long a college student might spend in the same apartment (it could be a year or their entire college career), a great solution is furniture rental. For people who move a lot, CORT Furniture Rental is a convenient solution for making a space more personal.

It’s furniture on demand! It’s there when you need it and gone when you no longer need it! So perfect for the college years!

You can get what you need when you need it, even if your child changes apartments every year of college! No need to worry about making certain pieces fit in a new space or spending money on a furniture item that just doesn’t work well in the apartment. They can get the furniture they need each year!

    Simple Storage

Having a lot of storage options is key when you’re working in college apartments. You want your student to have plenty of space for all of their books and school supplies, but then you have to remember that they need storage in their kitchen area, living room area, and bedroom area! There are some easy ways to make the space do double duty and get more storage space :

    • Over the door organizers and hampers
    • Bed risers to create space under the bed for more storage
    • Removable hooks so you can add hooks anywhere you need them
    • Stackable baskets
    • Footstools and ottomans that double as storage space inside

Don’t be afraid to think outside of the box when it comes to storage and make things do double duty in our college apartments!

    Pretty Up the Walls

One of the quickest and easiest ways to add personality to any space is through photos, artwork, mirrors, and other things you can hang on the wall. Don’t worry about making a bunch of nail holes that have to be repaired later though. Use the removable hooks and mounting strips to decorate with easy and without leaving any damage behind at the end of the lease!

    Add a Pop with Color

To make the space even more personal, don’t be afraid to add some color. You don’t have to start painting walls to add color either. Here are some easy ways to add color to any size space:

    • Throw pillows
    • Artwork on the walls
    • Rugs
    • Curtains
    • Washi tape (You can use washi tape to create interest areas on walls because it’s easy to remove!)

So start planning how you’re going to decorate that college apartment and make plans to rent furniture from CORT! They offer a variety of packages that are perfect for students with off-campus apartments!

It makes it easy and so much fun during what can be a crazy transition time of life!

To make life more simple for Roommates, CORT has partnered with SimpleBills Roommate Utility Billing. They split roommate utility bills and help students manage their utilities. This is how it works:

    • SimpleBills receives all the utility bills
    • SimpleBills pays the utility bills
    • SimpleBills invoices each roommate for their portion of each months bill
    • Students manage their accounts online or through the SimpleBills app

SimpleBills makes utility management simple and roommate life more enjoyable.

So it’s time to get excited about college apartment prep and new memories with roommates!
