When it comes to our favorite Crockpot recipes, we usually stick to dips and main dish type recipes. But I always knew that you could make most anything in the slow cooker. While we hope for Fall weather to arrive, we made Crockpot Caramel Apple Dump Cake so we could enjoy some of our favorite Fall flavors!
Crockpot cake is so easy to make and you can really make almost any flavor you’re craving with a few adjustments to this easy recipe!
CROCKPOT CARAMEL APPLE DUMP CAKE
Dump cakes are perfect for busy family life because they’re so easy to make. If your kids like to get in the kitchen with you, making a dump cake is a great option.
Add in the Crockpot and you’ve got a slow cooker apple dessert that you can prep and let bake!
The basic dump cake ingredients are cake mix, pie filling, and butter. With those two ingredients, you can mix and match flavor combinations. I love any kind of cherry dump cake, but this Crockpot apple dump cake that Grambo made recently might be taking a place at the top of the list of favorites!
To make this caramel apple dump cake recipe, you need all the basic ingredients along with another very important addition! You need a jar of caramel sundae sauce.
With those ingredients, you’ll have an easy Crockpot cake the whole family will enjoy! It’s perfect for all of your fall celebrations and also works great on Thanksgiving or Christmas!
I also love to pair it with our easy Slow Cooker Chicken Noodle Soup for a great day of comfort food. (And yes, we own multiple Crockpots in our house!)
CROCKPOT APPLE DUMP CAKE RECIPE
I recommend you make your slow cooker dump cake in a 6-quart Crockpot or larger. It’s the size that seems to work best. Because this caramel apple dump cake recipe has the extra ingredient with the caramel sauce, I feel like it gives you a little more cake in the end. So a larger Crockpot is best!
Once you have your salted caramel apple dump cake ingredients, you’re ready to get cooking.
If you’ve never made a dump cake before, it’s called a dump cake for a reason. You can pretty much dump all of the cake ingredients into the Crockpot and let it cook!
With this recipe, you’ll layer the apple pie filling and then the caramel sauce. The cake mix goes on top and then you’ll be ready to bake it!
There is plenty of flexibility in this recipe. You can cook it on HIGH for two hours or set it on LOW and let it cook for 4 hours. Whichever setting works best for your plans will get you a tasty caramel apple dump cake to enjoy!

CROCKPOT CARAMEL APPLE DUMP CAKE RECIPE FAQ
Is Crockpot Apple Dump Cake different from Crockpot Apple Cobbler?
Just slightly. When I make slow cooker apple cobbler, I don’t use caramel sauce. We also don’t mix the butter and the cake mix. For Slow Cooker Apple Cobbler, follow these directions but just top the apples with the cake mix then pour the butter over the top.
Can I make Caramel Apple Dump Cake with fresh apples?
Absolutely! If you want to substitute fresh apples for the apple pie filling, try these ingredients:
- 2 cups of apples, chopped
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup apple juice
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Then layer the apples in the bottom of the slow cooker, top with the brown sugar and cinnamon, and pour the apple juice over it all.
Can I use a different flavor of cake mix to make this caramel apple dump cake?
You sure can! This recipe works great with white cake mix and spice cake mix too! Spice cake gives it an extra punch of flavor!

Does this apple dump cake recipe only work in the Crockpot?
Nope! This recipe works in the oven too just like a regular dump cake.
All you do is spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Then layer the ingredients just as you would in the Crockpot. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 45 minutes or until the cake is golden on top. The apple pie filling should be bubbly around the edges of the cake.
No matter how you make it, this Crockpot apple dump cake will be enjoyed by everyone!
