When it comes to certain areas of the house, I’ll admit that they are really just more about passing through. Our mudroom is one of those rooms. We’ve added a bench and some hooks in the main part of the room. But then there has always been this boring wall right by the door to our backyard. It’s just been sitting there looking plain and boring. And not being useful at all. Until recently when we gave it an easy DIY Mudroom Makeover!
Easy DIY Mudroom Makeover
Grambo and I have taken on a lot of DIY projects over the past three years. We moved into our new (to us) house and started making it over. It’s about 45 years old and has had a few owners so there were plenty of projects to take on! Taking on the bigger projects like giving the nursery and the playroom a makeover came easily.
But then we were left with areas like the wall at the end of the mudroom. So much space and yet we didn’t ever do anything with it until now.
And it needed some help! Do you have walls in your house that could use a major paint touch up? This wall definitely did. From old nail holes the previous owners left to poorly painted lines where our walls meet our baseboards, this area was in need of help!
It was about time we took over with this easy mudroom makeover idea!
Do Your Own Mudroom Makeover
All you need for a makeover like ours is FrogTape® brand painter’s tape (we used the multi-surface for this project but it’s also available in FrogTape® Delicate Surface as well), your touch up paint color (or a brand new paint color for fun), and an interest piece.
So what is an interest piece? It could be family photos or other fun artwork. In our case, we went on the hunt for something that would be practical in the mudroom but still look interesting and make it a focal wall.
All you have to do is tape off all of your baseboards and other areas where you will need to cut in with your paint. Then get painting. If you’re just doing a touch up like we did to get better lines at your baseboards and fix up all the dings, you’ll be done quickly and can move on to adding the interest.
We love using FrogTape® Multi-Surface for most of our painting projects around the house. It’s designed for use on cured painting walls, wood trim, glass, and metal.
It also features FrogTape’s PaintBlock® Technology which prevents paint from bleeding no matter what surface you’re using it on. And it will remove cleanly from most surfaces for up to 21 days and up to 7 days if in direct sunlight!
If you’re redoing the whole wall, we like to let the paint dry overnight before hanging anything on the walls.
The last step is to add your interest piece or pieces! We found this fun row of hooks at a local home store and just knew it was perfect for the space. Luckily it was the perfect length so we’ve added interest to our wall and we have more hooks available now too! It’s a win-win for us!
And an hour later we took the boring, drab wall in the mudroom to fab! And useful too! We’re loving the change!
