Weston is getting into baking with me but when he’s in the kitchen it’s even more important to keep it simple. It keeps stress levels low and helps us to have a great time together. So we often opt for a box cupcake mix and do some special add-ins to make our cupcakes unique! Check out the easy M&M cupcakes made with white box cake mix and some of Weston’s favorite candies!

These easy M&M Cupcakes take a box cake mix and add some pops of color and flavor to it! If you're looking for fun and easy cupcake recipes, try this one!

    Easy M&M Cupcakes

You can either use a mix of mini or regular sized M&Ms in this recipe, but we recommend a mix of the two. And to help you find everything you need, this post has some affiliate links.

    What You Need:

    • 1 box white cake mix
    • 4 eggs (even though the box may only call for 3, this will make it taste more like homemade!)
    • 1/3 cup oil
    • 1 cup to 1 1/3 cup water, depending on what your mix calls for (substitute whole milk to make it taste more like homemade!)
    • 1/2 cup of Mini M&M chocolate candies (one tube works well)
    • 1 can Vanilla or Buttercream frosting
    • 1 bag regular size M&M chocolate candies
    • Zipper seal plastic bag or Decorating Bag with a large tip (This Cupcake Decorating set has everything you need to get started!)

If you can’t find the Mini M&Ms then you can use the regular size but they may sink to the bottom of your cupcakes. If you use the regular size, I would first fill your cupcake liners with batter and then drop a few in each cupcake.

    What You Do:

    1. Heat the oven to 350 degrees and line cupcake pan with liners.
    2. Prepare your cake mix according to the directions on the packaging. Add an egg and substitute milk for water if you want a more homemade taste!
    3. Right before you put cake batter into the cupcake liners, add the 1/2 cup of Mini M&M chocolate candies into the batter and mix.
    4. Fill each cupcake liner 2/3 full.
    5. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
    6. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes.
    7. Remove from cupcake pan and place on wire rack to cool completely.
    8. Fill a zipper seal plastic back with frosting (you can whip it with a hand mixer before to make it lighter) and snip the corner off the bag. Or use a Decorating Bag with a large tip.
    9. Start by frosting the outer edge of the cupcake and work your way around to the center.
    10. Sprinkle with different colored M&M chocolate candies (you can use mini or regular sized).
