As I mentioned in yesterday’s Elf on the Shelf ideas post, I love elf ideas that use items I have around the house. I don’t want to spend a ton of money buying supplies to plan elf antics all month long. I would rather spend money on gifts and other things like craft supplies that we can use to make memories together.

If you need more ideas, check out all of my Elf on the Shelf ideas!

Elf on the Shelf Ideas: Spell with Cereal

If there is one thing we always seem to have around the house besides Goldfish crackers, it’s cereal. We usually have at least two different kinds if not more so we’re never in short supply. So it is easy to break out the cereal and use it to spell out a message for the kids.

The message can be as simple as your elf’s name or even the names of your children. Or you can get even more creative and spell out a longer message, perhaps one from Santa himself! The possibilities are really endless. Well, they might be limited by one thing… the amount of cereal you have in your pantry!

Cheerios work well for spelling out messages but you can use other kinds of cereal. Fruit Loops could be fun, especially if you were to sort out the red and green ones to make your elf’s message even more festive! But really most any kind of smaller cereal works well for this idea. So use what you have and cross one day of Elf on the Shelf off your calendar!

What message would your elf leave for your kids?
