Fun & Easy Backyard Activities for Toddlers
When it comes to warmer weather, my kids are all about getting outside and staying there as long as they can! As a mom, I love seeing them playing and being active so I do my best to keep them busy! Planning fun and easy backyard activities for toddlers is one of my favorite things to do for Carrigan this time of year.
I love seeing her build up her independence and confidence through activities that she has a blast doing too! She loves picking out her own clothes and shoes in the morning before heading outside. (She’s really a shoe lover too, I might be in trouble!) Helping her pick out the shoes for what we have planned is fun for me. I get to share her excitement for the day ahead. It’s contagious!
Check out some the things we’ve been doing together these days!
Water Play Everyday!
It’s pretty hot and humid down here in Texas but that doesn’t stop my kids from wanting to get outside. So we do a lot of water play. It doesn’t have to be complicated either! Sometimes we get out the sprinkler and just run around in our swimsuits for a while. Other days I fill up the water table and add something interesting to make it magical. Some of the things we’ve used in the water table include:
- Blocks
- Marbles
- Ice Cubes
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Toy cars and bubble bath to give them a car wash
So it’s the same water table but with a minor adjustment, we can keep it fun and exciting!
Sidewalk Chalk Games
We have tons of chalk laying around once summer rolls around. It’s everywhere and the kids always want to buy more! Luckily it’s pretty inexpensive so I stock up when I find good deals! Then I find it in the fort of the playset, in the garage, in the shed, and sometimes a few pieces even try to sneak inside the house all summer long!
But it’s also one of our favorite backyard activities for toddlers because there are so many things you can with it! Try some of our favorite activities including:
- Art Gallery where we each draw our own picture or create one giant masterpiece together
- Draw mazes or paths that everyone has to walk on to get from area to area
- Color sorting by drawing different colored circles and finding outside toys that match each color
- Sidewalk chalk Simon game
- Obstacle course
Time to Play
But one of the easiest backyard activities for toddlers is just letting them head outside to play! Giving Carrigan time outside is one of the best things I can do. I don’t even have to plan activities. If I’m there and willing to play with her, she’ll play until we’re both too hot and sweaty to keep going.
No matter what we’re doing this summer, I make sure that we all are prepared with great clothes and shoes for summer. Protecting those little arms, legs, and feet is always a top priority for me especially during the busy summer months! Famous Footwear has us covered this summer! We all got new shoes for summer and so far Carrigan’s Kids’ Minnie Sandal Toddler have kept her on the move!
She’s a huge Minnie Mouse fan so it was great to find a sandal perfect for summer that she loves too! I love seeing her so confident as she heads out to the backyard, her first school type experience at camp this summer, or just out and about with me! Famous Footwear has given her even more confidence when we put on our shoes to head outside and make some memories in our backyard!
