    Holiday Countdown Traditions

When it comes to the holiday season, I cannot wait until Thanksgiving is over and it officially begins around our house. I’m all about making memories during the holidays and some of my favorite things are our holiday countdown traditions.

The kids are finally getting old enough to really understand what’s going on so that makes the countdown to the big day even more fun! We have quite a few things we do to make the holiday countdown fun! They’re easy and I hope they’ll lead to fond memories when my kids are older!

    Holiday Countdown Advent Calendars

Each year, the kids get an advent calendar. While Carrigan hasn’t been old enough to really understand it, we had to have one for her so Weston wouldn’t have to fight for his own. We enjoy opening a door together each morning. This is a holiday countdown tradition that I’ve carried over from when I was growing up.

We used to get a little chocolate each morning! Advent calendars have definitely come a long way since I was a kid!

Funny story this year is that Carrigan really doesn’t completely understand yet. So in a parenting moment where I had to choose my battles, she opening her entire advent calendar on December 1st! I figure it will be a great story for years to come!

    Holiday Countdown Decor

We also have a number of holiday decorations that act as countdowns to the big day! We have a snowman with a nose that we can move each day and a wooden tree that we add an ornament to each day. We also have a couple holiday countdown ornaments that the kids love to check in with each day!

I love looking for new pieces of decor to go around the house during December! They make the whole house feel festive and help build up the excitement as we get closer and closer!

    Gift Wish Lists

Another holiday tradition that I’ve carried over from my childhood is making gift wish lists. It’s one of our holiday countdown traditions that I like to do on the first weekend of the month. We all sit down together and make lists together!

Weston is just learning to write so he’s actually starting to write some lists. But one of my favorite ways to let the kids find gifts they’d like to get is to break out the Great Big Toys“R“Us Book of AWWWESOME and let them circle the toys they love.

I have to admit that this also helps me when it comes to shopping! With Toys”R”Us, I aim to get my shopping done early. But let’s be honest, I’m usually still finishing up shopping last minute. That’s why I love that I can get pretty much everything my kids want at Toys”R”Us!

Toys”R”Us has all of the hottest toys for the holiday season in one place! We also have Weston’s birthday in December so the store is a huge help for this mom!

The holiday season is all about making memories that will last a lifetime. For me that means developing traditions. I hope our holiday countdown traditions will continue even when my kids get older! Maybe they will even pass a few down to their own families! (I’m pretty sure they will shop at Toys“R“Us even when they’re grown and probably not just for their kids!) Most of all, I hope that they have memories of being loved and cared for each holiday season.
