This fall we’re working in partnership with Primo® water to share some of my tips for getting my family drinking more water. Hydration for kids has always been very important to me. It goes back to my days in the classroom and how important it was to have my students hydrated.
I have one kid who is all about drinking water and another who doesn’t embrace it quite as easily. The same goes for the adults in our family. Some are all about water and others need a little encouragement.
If your family is like mine, back to school time is the perfect time to start new routines that will help them build healthy habits!
BACK TO SCHOOL HYDRATION FOR KIDS (& THE FAMILY!)
Back to School is a busy time of year. It’s the time of year when we start getting back into our family’s routine. Not only does school start but, a few weeks later I find myself back in the thick of dance mom and baseball mom life. There’s a lot on my mind this time of year and one of those things is water.
When my kids buy new lunch kits each year, they also buy a new water bottle. Our school encourages kids to bring a reusable water bottle each day. This year PTO got Primo water dispensers for our campus so the kids can refill throughout the day too! I love how easy they’re making it to keep our kids hydrated.
Hydration is so important for our overall health and I know when I don’t get enough water, I can feel it in my body. Those are usually my tired and cranky days. The last thing I want is for my kids to be feeling that way at school (or during their after school activities). You can also learn more about the importance of hydration and how it impacts our daily lives.
So, knowing they have access to plenty of water at school inspired me this back to school season! Check out some of the easy ways I’m encouraging our whole family to drink more water this fall.
3 SIMPLE WAYS TO DRINK MORE WATER
1. Primo Water Dispensers
My first tip is to get a water dispenser for your home. It makes a difference!
I was inspired by my children’s school and their focus on hydration for kids. So, inspired that when Primo asked us to work with them on incorporating one of their water dispensers into our daily lives, I was thrilled and jumped at the opportunity to start a new healthy routine in our home.
The kids need to drink water to support their bodies and their brains. Being able to send them to school each day with their reusable water bottles filled with Primo water has made me feel really good.
The kids are able to fill their own water bottles and filling up our 5-gallon bottle each week has become a family affair! I also learned that adding a water dispenser to our home can lead to my family drinking 25% more water. I have to admit that I think this is definitely true because my family has been all about drinking more water since we set up our Primo hTRIO Bottom Loading Water Dispenser with Single Serve Coffee K-cup® Machine Built-In.
What I love about our water dispenser is that it’s so easy for me to always have water that goes through a multi-step purification process that includes reverse osmosis to provide us with highly purified, healthier drinking water. It tastes so great that I find myself drinking more water than I used to drink!
You can find Primo water at local stores like Walmart, Home Depot, Kroger, H-E-B, and other grocery stores. We even have a refill station at the little neighborhood grocery store near our house! It’s so convenient to find a refill station whether I just need to make a quick water refill run or we’re out doing our weekly grocery shopping. You can find a refill station near you by using the zip code locator on the Primo website.
The refill stations are branded as Glacier water. They’re the same company as Primo water so you’re in the right place!
Like all Primo dispensers, our hTRIO Water Dispenser allows for hot and cold water. It also brews K-cup® beverages and that saves us space by combining two appliances into one. I’m all about saving counter space in our small kitchen!
With built-in storage for 20 K-cups and a reusable coffee filter, it’s encouraging Justin to drink more water-based beverages in the morning! With the 5-gallon bottle, he doesn’t have to refill a water filter each morning. I love that the bottom-loading design makes it simple to replace the bottle. All I have to do is remove the empty one, get it filled, and then slide it back into the cabinet on the bottom.
Another thing I love is that I don’t have to worry about my kids dispensing hot water accidentally. The dispenser has a red child lock to prevent that from happening. The hot water temperature control on the back of the dispenser can also be turned off.
To make single-serve beverages using a K-cup pod, the brewer cup drawer has to be removed using the gray button. The pod has to pressed in until the needle punctures it and that does require some pressure. Once the pod top is level with the top of the drawer, it can be inserted until it clicks.
The serving size buttons (6, 8, and 10 ounce) light up so you can make your selection. I love that if you don’t choose one within 5 seconds, the buttons will turn off to prevent hot water from inadvertently being dispensed!
The hTRIO Water Dispenser also includes a collection of other practical features including:
- Fast flow dispensing to fill pitchers and pots quickly. This works great for filling the kids’ water jugs before baseball too!
- LED nightlight
- Smart paddle design to make it easy to dispense cold water with one hand
Our new Primo Water Dispenser has made it so convenient to drink more water each day and I like knowing we’re going into a busy season of life staying hydrated. I also like that my kids are filling their water bottles each morning and taking responsibility for that item on the morning to-do list!
2. Reusable Water Bottles
I mentioned that my kids get new lunch kits each school year. Choosing a new reusable water bottle also builds excitement for them and encourages them to drink more water. I even got myself a new water bottle too and have been drinking more water.
So, one of the easiest things I think you can do to encourage your family to drink more water is to go shopping and let everyone pick out a brand new water bottle. Then make it a mission to put them to use!
3. Keep It With You
One of the easiest changes I’ve made to my daily routine is keeping my water bottle by my side. Wherever we go, we take our reusable water bottles (or water jugs if we’re headed out to baseball) and I feel like we’ve all been drinking more water.
Just having it with us whenever we’re thirsty has made a big difference. Imagine that!
You can shop for in-home dispensers on the Primo website. You can also buy a non-spill cap to make it easier to refill your bottle at your local refill stations.
Use the promo code WATERGOALS25 on the Primo website to get 25% off a new dispenser, FREE fast shipping, and two FREE coupons for a 5-gallon bottle of Primo water (one coupon will be mailed and another will be in the box when it’s delivered).
If you’re looking for easy ways to get your family drinking more water this school year, keep it simple! Make small changes and they will add up to big things! We hope everyone has a great school year!
