I love a good buttercream frosting! It’s one of my favorites and when you shake it up a bit with different flavors, I still love it. One of our local cupcake shops does a variety of buttercream flavors and I recently had a lemon frosting that was amazing. It was inspiration for thisย orange buttercream frosting recipe!

Try this Orange Buttercream frosting recipe for a twist on a classic! So delicious!

    Orange Buttercream Frosting Recipe

I also love making flavored buttercream frosting since I started usingย essential oilsย because I can use them to create fun flavors without it being heavy on the flavor. Orange is one of my favorites and I’ve also made lavender recently with same recipe!

    What You Need:

2 cups powdered sugar (you may need a bit more)
1/2 cupย sweet cream butter, softened
    2 TBSP heavy cream
2-5 drops of orange food ย coloring
2 drops of orange flavoring (if want a lighter orange flavor, use a drop of Orange essential oil)

Check out what you need to make Orange Buttercream frosting!

    What You Do:

    1. Beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on low speed.
    2. Add 2 cupsย of powdered sugar to the mixer and continue to beat at a medium speed until the combination of butterย and powdered sugar forms small pebbles.
    3. Add the heavy cream and orange flavoring or orange essential oil.ย Beat with mixer to incorporateย all ingredients.
    4. Check to see if the frosting can stand in stiff peaks.ย If it cannot, continue to add powdered sugar and mix well until the frosting can stand in the stiff peaks.
    5. Separate the frosting in half.ย Keep one half as white.
    6. Add orange food coloring to the second half. Stir to ensure the color is bright and vivid.
    7. If you are using a pastry bag or a zip lock bag (with the corner cut) add the white frosting on one side of the bag and then add the orangeย frosting to the other side.ย Test to ensure that both colors come out of the tip at the same time.
    8. When both colors of the frosting show when squeezing your bag, start frosting your cupcakes!

Thisย Orange Buttercream Frosting Recipe goes great on top of our Orange Creamsicle Cupcakes!

Orange buttercream frosting is a great way to top all kinds of cupcakes! Vanilla, chocolate, even orange!
