The weather is warming up and that means my kids want to go outside! I love watching them run and play together but I also have to remember some basic safety things so no one gets hurt. So here are some simple outdoor play safety tips for kids!

Take your kids outside but keep them safe with these simple Outdoor Play Safety Tips!

Although most of these tips are just common sense. I find myself needing to give myself a little reminder once we head outside regularly again!

    Watch Out

No matter how old the kids, they need adult supervision when playing outside. Whether you’re playing at the local playground or on bikes in your cul-de-sac, a lot of injuries and accidents can be avoided with proper supervision.

    Stay Protected

Sunscreen and sunglasses are important as the kids head outside more and more in the warm weather. Make sure you’re protecting their skin and their eyes!

    Toy Check

When picking out new toys for the kids to play with outside, be sure to keep in mind the ages of the children who will be playing. If younger kids will be playing, check for small parts. Even outdoor toys can have small pieces that aren’t safe for the little ones.

Also check all of your older toys for any broken pieces that could be a safety issue.

    Dress for Play

When the kids head outside to play, it’s important to make sure that what they wear matches the activity. For going to the beach or pool, protective swimwear and flotation devices are important for younger kids. For heading out to the backyard or to the playground, clothing that helps keep them cool without being in their way because it’s too loose is what you should aim for. Closed toe shoes and sandals that fit correctly will keep your child’s feet protected.

Stride Rite has always been one of our favorites when it comes to shoes for the kids. And now that Carrigan is on the move and loves being outside, we’re definitely all about Stride Rite.

The Made 2 Play Collection is great for our outdoor play for a few reasons including:

    • Grip & go strap to make the shoes easy to put on
    • Reinforced toe for durability
    • Anti-stink lining (one of my favorite features)
    • Dirt-shedding soles
    • Memory foam for comfort

You can check out all of the great looks with Stride Rite Made 2 Play for girls and Stride Rite Made 2 Play for boys.

Use the code FORMULA to save 20% on your next pair of Stride Rite shoes (valid through 6/30). Use the store locator to find a location near you and get outside and play!
