Our STEM Preschool Activities are sponsored by Energizer®. We had a blast exploring light and color together!
If you’re looking for an easy way to keep your preschooler busy and learning while having fun, these pre k STEM activities are perfect!
STEM Preschool Activities Using Flashlights & Blocks
Both kids are back in school but we still have time at home, especially with Carrigan. She’s in preschool and it seems like when she’s home, she is the one who wants to keep learning.
It’s definitely something I want to encourage.
STEM is science, technology, engineering, and math. It’s basically the definition of all things Weston loves right now. If Weston loves it, that means Carrigan does too! I want to encourage my little girl to explore STEM activities as much as her brother.
Thanks to Energizer® and the Multi-Function Light with Light Fusion Technology™ we were able to explore some preschool light activities with our favorite magnetic blocks!
Preschool STEM Activities with Light & Color
The great thing about these activities is that you only need your flashlight and solid magnetic blocks.
We have a set of blocks that includes some that are solid and perfect for shining light through!
Exploring colors with light is tons of fun for kids of all ages. The great thing about the Energizer® Multi-Function Light with Light Fusion Technology™ is that it sits high enough on the floor to work well with our blocks.
It was a blast to try shining light through different color blocks! Carrigan’s mind was blown by the simple activity.
If you had larger blocks it would work with them as well because it features a pivoting head and fold-out legs. So you can use blocks of different sizes too!
We had a blast mixing colors too. It was a great way to learn and explore colors!
Pre K STEM Activites Exploring Light
After giving Carrigan the flashlight and the blocks, I just watched her and her open-ended play.
She spent a lot of time exploring the way the flashlight could shine on different things hanging in our hallway. She shined it on things that were close to her like the doorknob and then shined it up to the ceiling.
On her own, she noticed differences in the way the light looked depending on where she was shining it.
She also played with colors to make photos hanging on the walls look different!
The Energizer® Multi-Function Light was good for this activity because it has 4 operating modes:
- Spot Light high
- Spot Light low
- Area Light high
- Area Light low
That gave us lots of light to explore with these STEM preschool activities!
Building Preschool STEM Activities
When you have blocks around, there is one thing that’s definitely going to happen! The kids are going to build!
We had the chance to talk about different things we could build with our blocks. Then we shined the light on them to see the colors!
That’s when Carrigan noticed the shadows too! Just another fun thing to explore with flashlights!
In our house, flashlights are popular. We keep some in our storm emergency kit and when the kids find a flashlight it’s like gold!
Whether it’s flashlights or the kids’ favorite toys, we keep our house stocked with batteries! Energizer MAX® AA batteries are the batteries I know we can depend on!
