Cold weather is hitting many of our homes. Even here in south Texas we’ve had temperatures dropping into the low 40s! The drop in temperature means it’s time to think about preparing your home for the winter. Winter decorating ideas are a fun way to make your home feel a bit warmer even as the weather cools down.
Winter Decorating Ideas for Your Home
Depending on where you live, preparing for winter might include getting shovels, ice scrapers, and other supplies ready to help you get ready for the weather that might be headed your way.
Even if you live in a warmer area, it can be fun to decorate your home to match the season.
One of the easiest things you can do is an idea that comes from CORT’s blog. CORT suggests that you upcycle your fall decorations into creative winter decor. Be sure to check out How to Winterize Your Home with Seasonal Decor to learn more about that idea!
They have some great ideas like making a pumpkin snowman and using metallic paint and glitter on pumpkins and pinecones!
These would be some great projects to do with your family!
There are plenty more winter decorating ideas for your home in case you’re not in the mood to upcycle anything.
Consider changing out some basic things around your home to give it more of a winter feel.
Some things you might change include:
- Throw Pillows
- Blankets (on couches or chairs)
- Framed artwork or other wall hangings
- Shower curtains
- Candles
- Plants
If you’re looking for a festive look rather than just a winter look, hang a string of lights. If you use warm white lights, it will give your home a glow that will make it feel warm and cozy.
Winter Decorating Ideas for the Fireplace
If you have a fireplace, the winter months will turn it into more than just a focal point in your room. But it is an amazing focal point with the potential for so many decor ideas!
A fire is one of the warmest decor options and definitely makes a house feel like a home.
But finding items for the mantel is actually one of my favorite things to do. We change out our mantel for each season and holiday. The kids love helping change the mantel so it’s definitely a family affair.
Some of the things we try to have on our mantel are:
- Vases, candle holders, or other containers
- Something seasonal with color
- Candles
- Something tall to add height
We also try to keep it fairly simple most of the time and stick with a color theme when we can.
If you’re looking to go a bit bigger, you can change out some of your furniture. If you want to make some temporary changes, CORT Furniture Rental can help you get a new look!
