One of the best things about using air fryers is all of the great side dish recipes you can make using it. It took me a while to get past cooking our favorite frozen foods and move on to main dishes and vegetables. Now I would never go back! Air Fryer Mushrooms are one of my favorite ways to make an easy vegetable side dish!

Scroll down for the full recipe or continue reading for tips, tricks, and detailed step by step directions for making these tasty mushrooms.

    EASY AIR FRYER MUSHROOMS RECIPE

If you’re a fan of mushrooms, you’ll love how easy it is to make air fried mushrooms. They pair well with a variety of meats which makes them very versatile and a perfect side dish!

The garlic flavor makes them a favorite when we make air fryer sirloin steak. Who doesn’t love mushrooms with their steak? (Don’t count the mushroom haters out there!)

You can use different types of mushrooms in this recipe. White button mushrooms are the ones I have on hand most often, so it’s what I usually use. But you can make this recipe with any fresh mushrooms you have on hand including baby bella portobello mushrooms or cremini mushrooms.

    AIR FRYER FRIED MUSHROOMS

This recipe does not make breaded mushrooms. This recipe is for healthier garlic mushrooms that you might get hooked on.

The recipe makes about four servings. It takes about five minutes to prepare and ten minutes to cook. You need some very basic ingredients for this recipe:

    • Sliced mushrooms
    • Olive oil
    • Garlic powder
    • Pepper
    • Salt

Exact measurements for each ingredient can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

HOW TO COOK AIR FRIED MUSHROOMS

Clean your mushrooms by rubbing them with a damp paper towel. I avoid rinsing with water because the mushrooms can absorb water. That can change the taste of the mushrooms can also cause the mushrooms to be damp when they’re cooking.

If you need to, slice the mushrooms. You can also make this recipe with whole mushrooms as long as they’re on the smaller side. You may need to add a little bit of time to the cooking time as well.

If the mushrooms are large, mushroom slices that are similar in size will cook more consistently.

Seasoned mushrooms in air fryer basket

Place the mushrooms, olive oil, garlic powder, pepper, and salt in a mixing bowl and toss to coat the mushrooms with oil and seasonings.

Put the mushrooms in the air fryer basket.

Cook at 375° for 10 minutes, remove the basket halfway through the cooking time and shake the mushrooms to toss them. Then continue cooking until mushrooms are done.

Some fryer models make require you to preheat before cooking. Check your user manual to see if you need to do this. Cooking times can also vary across different air fryers.

HOW DO YOU CLEAN MUSHROOMS BEFORE COOKING?

I usually rub them clean with a damp paper towel as I mentioned above. But you can also put the in a colander and shake off as much dirt and debris as you can. Then rinse them very quickly to avoid getting them too wet.

Blot them dry with a paper towel before cooking.

HOW LONG DO YOU AIR FRY FROZEN MUSHROOMS?

I cook a lot of frozen food in the air fryer and you can cook frozen mushrooms the same way. I’ll admit that if we’re craving breaded mushrooms, I’m likely to pick up some frozen ones.

I cook them at 375° for 12-14 minutes, shaking to toss them halfway through the cooking time.

So, can you air fry frozen breaded mushrooms? ABSOLUTELY! And I definitely suggest trying it sometime too!

WHAT ARE THE BEST AIR FRYERS?

This is a very subjective question.

There are so many different models available. The best way to find the one that is best for your family is to think about which air fryers will meet your needs the best. A lot of this depends on the capacity you need and also the style you like.

I actually own two basket-type air fryers. I oven an oven-style fryer and hardly used it. So we now own a smaller capacity model that gets used daily and a larger one that I use when making larger recipes, especially main dishes. I’ve definitely learned that I prefer air fryers with a basket and that two air fryers get the job done for our family!

Below are some of the air fryers I have used or had the opportunity to try out and have liked.
