CAN YOU AIR FRY STEAK?
Absolutely! If you couldn’t, I wouldn’t be sharing this recipe.
In under 30 minutes, you can air fry steak and you’ll have juicy meat that is cooked to your preference. Using this easy recipe, you can cook your steak to perfection in the air fryer!
Air frying is a great way to cook the meat because of the delicious flavor you get both inside and outside.
ARE STEAKS GOOD IN THE AIR FRYER?
Yes, I think steaks are great when they’re cooked in the air fryer. You can get a nice crisp outside with juicy meat inside.
While we usually enjoy sirloin steak, you can cook a variety of cuts in the air fryer. I recommend using a steak that is on the thicker side. It’s very easy to overcook thinner steaks in the air fryer while you wait for the outside to crisp up.
So you can use sirloin, rib eye, or strip steak in the air fryer, Just look for a steak that is about 3/4″ to 1″ thick.
CAN I COOK A FROZEN STEAK IN AN AIR FRYER?
You can cook a frozen steak in the air fryer though I highly recommend thawing before you cook the meat. Thaw it and let the meat rest at room temperature.
If you’re cooking frozen steak in the air fryer, you will need a long cooking time. I would suggest 18-20 minutes total. Be sure to flip the steak halfway through the cook time.
Depending on the thickness of the steak, you may need additional cooking time.
WHAT ARE THE BEST AIR FRYERS?
There are so many different models of air fryers available. I’ve shared some of my favorites below (aka my wish list), but I recommend that you look for the size you need (we have a larger one and a smaller one) and then read up on the features to see which ones appeal to you!

HOW LONG TO COOK STEAK IN AIR FRYER
For fresh or thawed steak, you will need to cook the steak in the air fryer for 10 – 14 minutes depending on how you like your steak done. For more well-done meat, cook the steak longer.
Be sure to flip the steak about halfway through the cook time, no matter how rare or well done you like it.
You can also check the steak temperature, which is the best way.
The FDA recommends that beef reach a minimum temperature of 145°F followed by a 3-minute rest period. This would give you a medium steak. You can see the full chart of safe minimum internal temperatures for all of your cooking needs.
- Rare: 125°F
- Medium-Rare: 135°F
- Medium: 145°F
- Medium Well: 155°F
- Well: 160°F
If you don’t have a kitchen thermometer, I highly recommend getting one! It’s one of the most used devices in my kitchen (after my air fryer of course!)

HOW TO AIR FRY STEAK
This recipe makes 2 servings, takes 20 minutes to prep, and 10-14 minutes to cook.
To make air fryer steak you need a short ingredient list. Ingredients for this recipe include:
- Thick-cut sirloin steaks
- Garlic powder
- Ground peppercorn (you can use black pepper if it’s all that you have)
- Salt
- Dried parsley for garnish, if desired.
The exact measurements for each ingredient are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.
To get started, allow your steaks to rest at room temperature for about 20 minutes. If you need to preheat your air fryer now is a good time to do it. Note: Not all air fryer models require preheating. Check your manual to see how your particular model works.
Season the steaks with garlic powder, peppercorn, and salt.
Then place the steaks in the air fryer basket.
You will cook them at 400°. The cooking time depends on your personal preference for how you like your meat.
For medium-rare, cook for about 10 minutes. Cook for 12 minutes for medium and 14 minutes for medium-well.
When the cooking time is finished, take the steaks out of the air fryer and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Garnish with dried parsley, if desired.
