It’s a fact that cloth diapering can save you money on diapers when you look at the long term. But when you’re buying diapers to build your stash and trying to save money, buying used cloth diapers can be a great way to get cheap cloth diapers!
We’ve got a few things to keep in mind when you’re shopping for used cloth diapers that will help you figure out if it’s worth doing!
Should You Buy Used Cloth Diapers?
Our answer to that question is yes. Buying used cloth diapers is a great way to save money while building your diaper stash!
As long as research a bit when looking for used cloth diapers for sale, you’ll come out on top! We bought quite a bit of our stash in gently used condition and they worked great for us!
Remember that condition is subjective.
The condition of a diaper is all relative and in the eye of the beholder. So what someone sees as minor staining may be major staining in your opinion.
Although a seller may claim that diapers are in excellent condition, it doesn’t mean they are pristine or that they are up to your standards. Just be prepared for that possibility.
Which leads me to my next suggestion…
Look for photos!
I never bought from an individual seller without seeing photos of the diapers.
Though I have purchased used diapers from larger cloth diaper retailers online without seeing photos and have been very satisfied. Still, to be safe, when it comes to individuals, I always want to see photos so I can judge the condition for myself!
Read seller feedback.
If you’re purchasing from a message board or another website that allows buyers to leave feedback on their transactions — read it before you buy!
If everyone else has been disappointed by their transactions, you might want to proceed with caution or think twice before you buy. On the flip side, if the seller sounds reliable based on feedback, you can probably feel more confident about your purchase!
Wash those diapers!
Let’s be real, you never know where the diapers have been no matter what the seller says in their description. There is always risk involved.
Definitely, prep those diapers as if they were brand new just to make sure they are clean and ready to go for your little one!
If it sounds too good to be true… it probably is!
Yes, you can get some great deals when buying used cloth diapers but if a deal sounds too good to be true then be careful!
If a seller claims that they will sell you ten name brand cloth diapers that are still new in the package for $75, you might want to demand some proof of the condition of the diapers.
I sold most of our diaper stash to other moms, so I know most sellers are just fellow moms, but just be smart and you should be able to save some money while you build your cloth diaper stash! Cloth diaper resale is a great option for finding cheap cloth diapers!

Hi! I really like the Diaper Swappers board on BabyCenter.com. I have bought several things from there, and have been pretty pleased! One time I got two Rocky Mountain pocket diapers that were lacking inserts for really cheap, and I had extra inserts, and only one other pocket diaper, so they have been great for me! I also bought an Aristocrats wool cover from there that I LOVE! So yeah, its also a great place to find newborn prefolds! I really like your blog!
