    Step By Step Directions

This recipe makes 4 servings. It takes less than 5 minutes prep time and 3-6 hours cooking time.

Chicken breasts with BBQ sauce in Crockpot

Step 1. Place boneless skinless chicken breasts in bowl of slow cooker and top with Hawaiian BBQ sauce.

Pineapple slices on chicken breasts in slow cooker

Step 2. Place pineapple rings on top of the chicken.

Step 3. Cook on low for 5-6 hours or high for 3-4 hours. You want the chicken to reach an internal temperature of 165โ„‰.

If the sauce is too thin, you can add 2 tablespoons of cornstarch to some of the barbecue sauce and stir it into the rest in the Crockpot. Allow to cook for 10-15 minutes and the sauce should thicken.

Step 4. Prepare rice according to the packaging and serve chicken and sauce over rice.

    Variations

You can tweak the basic slow cooker Hawaiian chicken recipe to change up the flavors. Here are some easy ideas:

    • Add some spice.ย ย Add red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce to the sauce to up the heat.
    • Add citrus pop.ย Add some more citrus flavor to your sauce by adding some pineapple juice, orange juice or lime juice.
    • Add extra sweetness.ย If your BBQ sauce isnโ€™t sweet enough for your liking, you can add some honey or brown sugar to the sauce.
    • Add tanginess.ย Soy sauce and worcestershire sauce can add some extra tang to your sauce.
    • Extra flavor.ย You can also add extra flavor by adding some garlic, ginger

You can also change up the recipe by cutting up the chicken ahead of time and using pineapple chunks. Try using skinless chicken thighs or pork with this same recipe too.

You can also add in chopped vegetables like bell peppers and onions.

    Leftovers Storage & Reheating

You can store any leftover Crock Pot Hawaiian chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.

You can freeze this entire recipe too for a dump and go dinner option. Simply put all of the ingredients in a freezer bag. You can keep it in the freezer for about 3 months. Then all you have to do is thaw it and put it in the slow cooker.

    FAQs

Can I put raw chicken in the slow cooker?

Yes, you can. Slow cookers are designed to cook raw meat, including chicken.
