    MICROWAVE MAC AND CHEESE

My family loves macaroni and cheese and I’ve shared some of our favorite recipes. If you’re looking for more mac and cheese, try Velveeta Mac and Cheese or Cheesecake Factory Macaroni and Cheese.

Both of those recipes make great side dishes or main dishes. But if you’re looking for a smaller serving of macaroni and cheese, the microwave is a great solution!

CAN YOU MICROWAVE MAC AND CHEESE?

Absolutely! You can buy the cups in the store or the individual packets. You can also make your own homemade macaroni and cheese in the microwave with a few simple ingredients and 10 minutes!

HOW DO YOU MAKE MAC AND CHEESE BETTER IN THE MICROWAVE?

If you’re making microwave macaroni and cheese in the Easy Mac cups, a quick tip for making better mac and cheese is to use milk instead of water!

This microwave macaroni recipe uses a combination of milk and water to get a creamy sauce.

HOW TO MAKE MAC AND CHEESE IN THE MICROWAVE

This recipe makes a single serving and can be prepared in less than 10 minutes. You can use a small bowl or a large mug to cook the macaroni.

You’ll need a few basic ingredients to make microwave macaroni and cheese.

    • Elbow macaroni
    • Water
    • Milk
    • Velveeta
    • Salt & Pepper
Bowl of elbow macaroni with cheese cubes on top

Velveeta works so well for macaroni and cheese because of the way it melts. But you can also use your favorite cheese. I recommend something that melts well. If you use shredded cheese, use about ½ cup of your cheese.

If you do swap shredded cheese, I recommend shredding it fresh so it doesn’t have the coating on it that the bagged cheese has. It will melt better. I recommend using a cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Fontina cheese if you’re looking for something different from Velveeta.

You might also add a bit of butter at the end if you’re using shredded cheese to add to the melty goodness.

White bowl with elbow macaroni and water

Mix the elbow macaroni, water, and salt in a microwave-safe bowl or a large microwave-safe mug.

Place the bowl on a microwave-safe plate as some water may boil over the edge of the bowl while cooking.

Microwave for 3 to 4 minutes and then stir.

Add the milk, cheese, and pepper.

    Stir to combine.

Return to the microwave and cook for 30 seconds.

    Stir before serving.

If noodles need more cooking time, return the bowl to the microwave and cook for additional time in 30-second increments.

HOW DO YOU MICROWAVE MAC AND CHEESE IN A BOWL?

It’s easy to make. Just add your pasta, water, and salt to the bowl. Cook for 3-4 minutes. Then add the cheese, milk, and pepper. Cook for an additional 30 seconds and stir before serving!

If you decide to try and make more than one serving at a time, you will need a larger bowl and additional cooking time.
