Planning for Medicare with Active Grandparents

    Family Life

This post may contain affiliate links view our disclosure

Tracking PixelI’ve shared about the ways I’m helping my mom stay healthy in retirement and a few things I think caretakers should look for when researching Medicare coverage. There are also a few things I think families need to look for when planning for Medicare for the older adults in the family who also happen to be very active! This post is sponsored by Amerigroup but opinions are my own.

    ACTIVE GRANDPARENTS PLANNING FOR MEDICARE

Grandparents living active lifestyles, as my mom does, are more and more common these days. With a more active lifestyle comes a different set of needs that had us looking for particular features when it comes to Medicare plans.

Planning for Medicare can be a very personal journey and if you’re a caretaker for an older adult in your family, you’ll probably find yourself very involved in the process.

Amerigroup knows that having the option for wellness services that address whole-person health can make it easier for older adults to manage their chronic conditions, stay engaged with the community around them, and avoid health-related incidents that are preventable. Amerigroup is committed to offering high-quality, affordable healthcare services in its Medicare Advantage plans. They strive to improve the health and well-being of consumers.

Annual enrollment ends December 7, 2019, which means Medicare-eligible individuals need to make decisions soon. Amerigroup has been expanding its wellness services to include options like nutrition support and education, service dog support, and pest control. If you’re supporting a senior who’s living an active lifestyle, there are some services to consider for supporting them and helping them maintain a good quality of life.

While coverage for essential services like doctor’s office visits, hospital services, and emergency care is important, when your loved one lives an active lifestyle you may look for additional services.

    PREVENTATIVE CARE SCREENINGS

My mom is very healthy for her age and we want her to stay that way so she can continue to stay active with us. Coverage for preventative care screenings is important for all older adults, but especially those who are fairly healthy. I want to make sure my mom is keeping an eye on her health, so we are able to prevent health issues and catch them early.

Amerigroup covers preventive care screenings and services that are important.

    HEARING, VISION, & DENTAL SERVICES

When talking to my mom about her overall wellness, she is always thinking about her vision. When vision appointments are a part of life, this is an important to consider!

Having a plan that covers routine hearing services, vision coverage, and dental services is important to us and the quality of her life. Making sure she’s getting annual checks is what will help her stay active and healthy.

    MIND, BODY, & HOME

As part of whole-person wellness, it’s important to us that all parts of my mom’s life are taken care of and supported. With Amerigroup’s Medicare Advantage plans there are some additional service options we like including:

    • Alternative Medicine – medically appropriate acupuncture and/or therapeutic massage visits may be covered
    • Health and Fitness Tracker – access to online programs to help achieve health goals and a fitness tracking device
    • Pest Control – if pests are having a direct impact on your health, you could have your home treated to control them
    • Healthy Nutrition – if changes to diet would help a diagnosed medical condition, nutritional counseling and pantry staples may be covered
    • SilverSneakers – members can sign up for the SilverSneakers fitness program designed for adults 65 and older

These are services included in many of Amerigroup‘s Medicare

Advantage plans, which work to improve lives by focusing on health and well-being. For us, this is a focus that is so important. My mom plans to be around for a long time, and we want her to stay in great physical and mental shape.

If you’re caring for an aging loved one who is active and living their later years to the fullest, take a look at all Amerigroup Medicare Advantage plans have to offer! Help the important people seniors in your life make the most out of their later years!
