    AIR FRYER MUFFINS

When you’re craving some freshly baked muffins but don’t have that much time, the air fryer is the answer. And who says no to muffins for breakfast? They’re one thing I know always makes my family happy.

Plus, if it’s going to be one of those busy mornings, these are easy to make ahead of time and they are also great for breakfast on the go!

I love how moist and light muffins baked in the air fryer turn out. The air circulating around the batter as it bakes really leaves you with a wonderful muffin.

WHAT KIND OF AIR FRYER DO I NEED TO BAKE MUFFINS?

Baking muffins in your air fryer is so simple!

All you need is silicone muffin cups and your muffin batter. I personally like to use a basket-style air fryer but you could also use an oven type of air fryer.

The basket style makes it easier to remove the muffins when they are done.

CAN YOU USE MUFFIN MIX IN AIR FRYER?

Yes, you can use muffin mix in the air fryer!

If I’m being completely honest, I use muffin mix more often than the completely homemade muffin recipe below. The recipe below is one of my favorite muffin recipes but when time is short, muffin mix is a huge help!

I’ve used several different types of muffin mix in my air fryer and they’ve all turned out alright. I have also used Bisquick with success in the air fryer.

However, even though it is a great convenience to use a box mix if you’re on the go and want something quick, I do recommend making your own batter from scratch. Scratch-made muffins are so easy to make and taste so delicious. They really are the best!

Dry ingredients for muffin in mixing bowl

    INGREDIENTS

This recipe makes 1 dozen chocolate chip muffins but you can use the base recipe to make your favorite kind of muffins!

    • 2 cups flour
    • ½ cup brown sugar
    • ¼ cup sugar
    • 1 tablespoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • ½ cup butter, melted
    • 1 cup milk
    • 2 eggs
    • ½ cup mini chocolate chips
    • Silicone baking cups

HOW TO BAKE MUFFINS IN THE AIR FRYER

Preheat the air fryer to 375°F. This is not required by all air fryer models so check yours to see if you need to preheat.

If you are using silicone muffin cups, you will not need a pan for your air fryer. The sides of the silicone muffin cups will hold steady inside the air fryer, making a muffin pan not needed for an air fryer.

If you’re using a pan, spray it with nonstick cooking spray.

Whisk the dry ingredients (flour, brown sugar, sugar, baking powder, and salt) together in a large mixing bowl.

Create a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the wet ingredients (melted butter, milk, and eggs). Stir to combine all the ingredients.

    Fold in the chocolate chips.

Place the silicone baking cups in the basket of the air fryer and fill each cup 2/3 full of batter.

Bake in the heated air fryer for 8 to 10 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center of the muffins comes out clean.

Continue cooking in batches until all the batter has been used.

Transfer the baked muffins to a wire cooling rack to cool completely before serving.

CAN YOU USE SILICONE MUFFIN CUPS IN AN AIR FRYER

Absolutely and I recommend using them. They keep their shape and are reusable.

When you use silicone baking cups, you don’t have to worry about what pan to use. You also don’t have to worry about the cups melting because silicone works well in high temperatures.

CAN YOU USE PAPER MUFFIN CUPS IN AN AIR FRYER

Yes, you can but I do not recommend it. They are often too thin to hold the batter in. Plus, they do not keep their shape on their own, so you will need to use a pan along with them.

The reason is that sometimes the paper cups will melt and stick to the muffins. This may not seem like a big deal until you are trying to get them off of the muffin!

Another downside to using paper liners in the air fryer is that they can blow around. If the paper liner blows around then you will end up with the paper liner stuck inside your muffin!

I have never had this happen when using silicone cups with my air fryer because the silicone doesn’t melt. If you’re nervous about this, just use the silicone cups and don’t worry about it!

CAN YOU PUT MUFFIN PAN IN AIR FRYER

You can use any pan that is ovenproof (and safe for up to 400 degrees) in the air fryer. I prefer to use silicone cups and silicone molds because they’re easy to find.

I do have some air fryer accessories like a metal cake pan that can be used for baking. I use a basket-style air fryer so finding pans for it can be a little trickier. If you have an oven-style air fryer, you may have great luck using muffin pans.

WHAT KIND OF AIR FRYER DO I NEED TO BAKE MUFFINS?

You can use any style air fryer that you have on hand for baking. I personally like the basket-style air fryers because they are so easy to clean. But, if you have a different type of air fryer and would rather use that then go ahead and use it!

The best part of making Air Fryer muffins is that you can get them together fast. They are so delicious and easy to make. My kids are big fans of muffins and I love how easy they are to make. Plus, the clean-up is a breeze if you use silicone muffin cups.

CAN YOU PUT PARCHMENT PAPER IN AN AIR FRYER

You can use it but with caution. I have used it with some recipes but haven’t ever used it when I’m baking muffins.

If you decide to use parchment paper in your air fryer, please be very careful. You don’t want it to burn. Don’t ever preheat the fryer with parchment paper in it. You want to always have food on top of it so it stays down.

I recommend that you check the maximum cooking temperature on the paper you’re planning to use. Make sure it’s parchment paper and not wax paper!

You should use a piece of parchment paper that is a bit smaller than the bottom of your air fryer so air can still circulate around the food. I have precut parchment circles that I use with my basket air fryer.
