The air fryer is great for a lot of things! I love using it to make frozen food like chicken strips but it’s also great for cooking vegetables in different ways. Air Fryer Zucchini Fries are so easy to make! They’re a delicious, savory snack, side dish, or even appetizer!
I didn’t make zucchini much until I got my air fryer! Now, this is one of my go-to air fryer recipes!
AIR FRYER ZUCCHINI FRIES
I feel like people either love zucchini or they’re kind of afraid of it. I’ll admit that I don’t know very many ways to make zucchini so I was kind of afraid of it for a long time.
If you fall into that category, air fryer zucchini is a great way to get started with it! It’s quick and easy to make. Once you master it, you can tweak the seasonings on it to change up the flavor a bit.
A lot of people make parmesan zucchini fries, but you can add your favorite seasonings to change up the flavor. For this zucchini air fryer recipe, I use garlic powder and Italian breadcrumbs. It’s a delicious combination!
If you want to make parmesan zucchini fries, you can add the parmesan to the breadcrumbs.
You can also make other vegetables in the air fryer, including air fryer brussel sprouts and air fryer corn on the cob.
If you’re looking for another appetizer option, I recommend making easy air fryer fried pickles or soft pretzels!
HOW IS AIR FRYING HEALTHIER?
Using an air fryer is a healthier option because you use little to no oil. I often use nonstick cooking spray. The crisp factor comes from the hot air circulating around the food.
So you get the crispiness you crave with less fat and calories. I think the flavor and crisp factor is usually close to what you get with deep fried foods.
The air fryer also tends to cook foods much quicker.
Not every air fryer works the same. They come in a variety of different sizes. If your air fryer is smaller, you may need to cook the food in smaller batches.
You might find that your air fryer model requires you to preheat before cooking it. No matter which air fryer you own, it’s a good idea to look through the manual and get familiar with how your model works.
I’ve shared some of my favorite models below:

INGREDIENTS FOR AIR FRYER ZUCCHINI
To make these zucchini fries, you will need:
- 2 zucchinis
- Egg
- Milk
- Flour
- Black Pepper
- Salt
- Garlic Powder
- Italian breadcrumbs
- Nonstick cooking spray
Exact measurements for each ingredient can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
This recipe makes about 4 servings of air fried zucchini sticks. If you have a larger air fryer, you should be able to cook them in 1-2 batches. For smaller air fryers, divide the zucchini sticks into as many batches as needed to get them all cooked.
HOW TO CUT ZUCCHINI FRIES
When you make this zir fryer recipe, you want your zucchini strips to be very similar in size. That might seem like a challenge but it’s really easy to do!
Start by cutting the zucchini in half lengthwise and then cut each half lengthwise again so you have four long pieces. Then cut your zucchini strips from those pieces by continuing to cut each one lengthwise. You’ll end up with a bunch of zucchini sticks that are similar in size.
HOW TO MAKE ZUCCHINI FRIES IN AIR FRYER
To get started, slice the zucchini into small strips. You want to try to have the strips be similar in size.
Whisk the egg, milk, flour, pepper, salt, garlic powder, and salt together in a shallow dish.
Put the Italian breadcrumbs in a separate shallow dish.
Dip each zucchini strip in the egg mixture and then in the breadcrumbs. Dip all of the strips and lay them on a flat surface.
Spray both sides of the zucchini fries with nonstick cooking spray.
Then place fries in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Avoid having the fries touch so that the hot air can circulate around each piece of zucchini.
Cook the zucchini fries at 400° for 15 minutes. Turn them halfway through the cooking time.
Remove finished fries from the air fryer and repeat the steps with the remaining batches.
Serve with garlic dipping sauce, ketchup, ranch dressing, chipotle ranch, or your favorite dipping sauce!
CAN I REHEAT CRISPY ZUCCHINI FRIES?
Fried zucchini in air fryer is best when you eat it right after cooking it. You get the crispiest fries straight from the air fryer.
You can reheat them and they will still taste good. They might not be as crispy.
To reheat zucchini fries, cook them in the air fryer at 400 for a few minutes or until they are thoroughly heated.
HOW TO STORE AIR FRIED ZUCCHINI FRIES
If you aren’t going to eat all of the zucchini strips fresh, you can store them in an airtight container for 4-5 days in the refrigerator.
Then reheat them in the air fryer to get some of the crispness back.
CAN I BAKE ZUCCHINI FRIES IN THE OVEN?
You can make this recipe in the oven, however, you’ll get much crispier fries if you make them in the air fryer.
To make them in the oven, prep the zucchini following the directions in the recipe. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the fries on the sheet. Bake for about 15 minutes and then turn. Bake for an additional 5-10 minutes or until the zucchini fries look crispy.
This is still a better option compared to deep-frying!
