    2. One Dish Wonder: All you need is a mug hence the name mug brownie. Thereโ€™s no extra bowls or messy clean-up when you make a mug recipe.
    3. Simple Ingredients: This recipe is made with pantry staples, so you might not even need a trip to the store! This recipe does not use box brownie mix.

    Ingredients & Equipment

    The ingredient list for this recipe is very basic and you might have a lot of them already! Hereโ€™s what youโ€™ll need:

    • Butter
    • Milk
    • Cocoa powder
    • Vanilla extract
    • Salt
    • Flour
    • Sugar
    • Mini chocolate chips

    You can also get other ingredients to top the brownie with. Some ideas include whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, strawberries, raspberries, and cherries.

    • Microwave-safe mug
    • Measuring cups
    • Measuring spoons
    • Mixing spoon

    Step By Step Directions

    This recipe makes one single serving brownie mug cake. It takes about 2 minutes prep time and 1 minute and 30 seconds of cook time.

    Step 1.ย Place the butter in the mug and heat for 30 seconds to melt.

    Step 2.ย Add the milk and cocoa powder to the melted butter and stir to combine.

    Step 3.ย Add the vanilla, salt, flour, sugar and mini chocolate chips and stir until mixed.

    Step 4.ย Heat in the microwave for 1 minute, then top with more mini chocolate chips. (If you need additional cook time, microwave brownie in additional 15-second increments.)

    Step 5.ย Allow to cool for 2 minutes before eating so the brownie can set.

    Variations

    • You can substitute your favorite chocolate chips. You can try dark chocolate or white chocolate.
    • Try adding a spoon of raspberry or strawberry jam to the brownie batter.
    • Add a dollop of peanut butter or chopped up peanut butter cups.
    • Chop up a tablespoon of walnuts or pecans to mix in.
    • Add a few drops of peppermint extract to make a mint brownie.
    • Mix some Nutella into the brownie batter.
    • You can add candy like M&Ms for extra texture.

    • Donโ€™t overmix the brownie batter or your brownie will be tough.
    • Donโ€™t overcook the brownie. Cooking times can vary depending on your microwave. To be safe you can start by cooking it for 1 minute. Then add additional 15-second increments to see what works best for your microwave.
