Why Youโ€™ll Love Making This Mug Cake Recipe

Itโ€™s quick and easy to make! You can make this easy mug cake in minutes with just a few basic ingredients.

Itโ€™s a single serving. You donโ€™t have to worry about portion control when youโ€™re craving cake. Mug cakes are each one serving!

Itโ€™s easy to customize! You can tweak the flavor to make it your favorite cake! The basic ingredients will give you a vanilla mug cake, but you can add almost anything you can think of to change up the flavor. Check out how we did it to make this version (you could also call it a chocolate chip mug muffin because it gives off that vibe).

    Mug Cake Ingredients

To make this recipe, you will need:

    • flour
    • sugar
    • baking powder
    • milk
    • vegetable oil
    • vanilla extract
    • mini chocolate chips

You will also need a microwave-safe mug!

    Mug Cake Variations

The variations on mug cakes are almost endless! You can customize to make it into your favorite cake like we did with this chocolate chip cake.

Check out some of our variety flavors:

    • Vanilla Mug Cake
    • Peanut Butter Mug Cake
    • Snickerdoodle Mug Cake

    How to Store Leftovers

You can store mug cakes at room temperature for 24 hours. Wrap the mug or container tightly with plastic wrap or keep in an airtight container so the cake does not dry out.

    Reheating Mug Cakes

You can reheat your mug cake but do it in very short bursts so you donโ€™t dry the cake out. Microwave it in 10 second increments until it is warm again so that it does not end up dry and rubbery.

Can I make mug cakes ahead of time?

Mug cakes are meant to be enjoyed warm and baked fresh, so it is not recommended to make them ahead of time. However, you can prepare the dry ingredients in advance and store them in an airtight container for convenience. Then all you have to do is add the wet ingredients and microwave!

    Does this recipe use eggs?

Chocolate chip mug cake is a no egg recipe for people looking for a sweet treat without eggs.

    Recipe Tips

If youโ€™re looking for a light and fluffy mug cake, having all of your ingredients are at room temperature before you start baking will help!

    Cake too dry?

    • Make sure that you are using the correct amount of flour. If you use too much flour, the cake will be dry.
    • Do not overcook the cake. If you overcook the cake, it will also be dry and crumbly.
    • Add a bit more milk before baking. This will help to make the cake more moist.

    Cake too wet?

    • Make sure that you are using the correct amount of flour. If you use too little flour, the cake will be wet.
    • Add a bit more cooking time if your cake is wet. Do it in short time increments (10-15 seconds) so you donโ€™t overbake it.
    • If your batter is too wet, add more flour.

    Cake too tough?

    • Donโ€™t overmix the batter. Overmixing will result in a tough cake.

You just can’t measure how much I love Chocolate chips, I love everything about these foods and what they stand for. I’ve tried doing it myself, but after seeing your recipe, it’s obvious what I’ve been missing over the years, it’s Vegetable oil!

      Thanks Mariam
