Christmas Oreos are a simple way to create festive treats without any baking. You only need Oreo cookies, candy melts, and a few sprinkles to make these chocolate covered Christmas treats that look like little Christmas trees.

Christmas Oreos
What I love most is how quick these come together. The kids can help with the decorating, and theyโre ready in just 30 minutes. Theyโre perfect for holiday cookie exchanges, classroom parties, or when you need a last-minute dessert for Christmas gatherings.

Ingredients & Equipment
Youโll need these ingredients:
- Oreo cookies
- Green candy melts
- White candy melts
- Star sprinkles
- Nonpareils sprinkles
Full measurements for each ingredient can be found in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Youโll also need a few things from your kitchen:
- Microwave-safe bowls
- Piping bag
- Baking sheet or plate
- Fork for dipping

Step By Step Directions
This recipe makes 12 servings. It takes 20 minutes of prep time and 0 minutes of cook time.
Step 1. Melt the white candy melts according to the package instructions until smooth and creamy.
Step 2. Dip the bottom of each Oreo into the white candy melts, ensuring itโs fully coated at the bottom only. Gently tap the fork on the edge of the bowl to remove excess candy melt. Place the coated Oreos onto a baking sheet or plate.

Step 3. Melt the green candy melts in a separate bowl until smooth.
Step 4. Transfer the melted green candy melts to a piping bag. Drizzle the green candy melts over the top of each Oreo in a zigzag pattern to create the look of a Christmas tree.
Step 5. While the green candy coating is still wet, place a star sprinkle at the top of each tree. Sprinkle the nonpareils sprinkles onto the trees to decorate.
Step 6. Allow the cookies to set completely. You can speed up this process by placing the baking sheet or plate in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes. Once set, carefully remove the Christmas tree Oreos from the surface.

Variations
- Try red and white candy melts instead of green for a peppermint look
- Use different colored candy melts to match your party theme
- Add crushed peppermint candies instead of nonpareils for a minty twist
- Make snowman Oreos by using all white candy melts and adding candy eyes and orange jimmies for noses
- Create Santa hat Oreos with red candy melts and mini marshmallows
- Use chocolate candy melts and add mini chocolate chips for chocolate lovers
Leftovers & Storage
Store these decorated Oreos in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. Keep the layers separated with parchment paper to prevent the decorations from sticking together. You can also refrigerate them if your kitchen is warm, but let them come to room temperature before serving for the best texture.

Tips & Tricks
- Make sure your candy melts are completely smooth before dipping. Any lumps will show up on your finished cookies.
- Work quickly when decorating because the candy melts set fast. If they start to harden in the bowl, just reheat them for a few seconds.
- Use a toothpick to guide the candy melts if you accidentally drip too much on the cookie.
- Let the white coating set for a minute before adding the green candy melts so the colors donโt blend together.
- Buy extra candy melts in case you need to remelt a batch. They can seize up if moisture gets in.
- Use a cooling rack over a baking sheet to catch drips and make cleanup easier.
Recipe FAQs
Can I use regular chocolate chips instead of candy melts? You can, but candy melts work better because theyโre designed to harden at room temperature without tempering. If you use chocolate chips, add a teaspoon of coconut oil to help them melt smoothly and set properly.
How do I keep the candy melts from getting too thick? If your candy melts thicken while youโre working, microwave them for 10-15 seconds to thin them out again. You can also add a tiny bit of vegetable oil to make them more fluid, but donโt add water or the candy will seize.
Can I make these ahead of time? Yes! These Christmas Oreos keep well for up to a week in an airtight container. Theyโre actually great to make a few days before you need them so youโre not rushing on the day of your party.
What if I donโt have a piping bag? Use a plastic sandwich bag with a small corner cut off, or just drizzle the green candy melts with a spoon. It wonโt be as precise, but it will still look festive.
Can I freeze these? You can freeze them for up to a month in an airtight container with parchment paper between layers. Thaw them at room temperature before serving.
What other sprinkles work well for this recipe? Any small sprinkles work great. Try red and green jimmies, silver dragees, or edible glitter for different looks. Just make sure to add them while the candy coating is still wet so they stick.
