    Variations

    • Use green apples for a tart flavor. You can use your favorite apples. Different varieties give the apple roses different flavors which makes this an easy recipe to tweak to your liking.
    • Add a sprinkle of nutmeg or cardamom with the cinnamon.
    • Try pears instead of apples for another take on the flavor.
    • Drizzle with caramel sauce before serving.

    Leftovers & Storage

Store leftover apple roses in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. If you want them warmed, pop them back in the oven for a few minutes to refresh the pastry.

    Tips & Tricks

    • You want to slice apples as thin as possible because they they are easier to shape in the puff pastry, but donโ€™t slice them so thin that they fall apart.
    • Donโ€™t overfill the pastry with apples or they may break when rolling
    • If apples are too stiff to roll in the pastry, microwave the slices for 30 seconds to soften them up.
    • Puff pastry works best when kept cold so donโ€™t let it sit out too long but you do want it thawed enough to cut and roll.

    Recipe FAQs

Can I make these ahead of time?
Yes! You can assemble the roses a few hours ahead and keep them in the fridge until youโ€™re ready to bake.

What kind of apples should I use?
Fuji, Gala, or Honeycrisp work well, but any red apple will do. You can use green apples for a more tart taste, but I prefer red varieties.

Do I need to peel the apples?
You can if you want, but I leave the skin on because it adds color to the apple roses.

    Can I skip the cinnamon?
You can leave it out but it does add a warmth to the flavor. You can also try apple pie spice.

What if I donโ€™t have puff pastry?
Pie crust can also work in this recipe but puff pastry gives you that nice, flaky texture.
