CROCK POT SWEET POTATO CASSEROLE
Crockpot Sweet Potatoes are my secret to holiday meal success. I love making side dishes in the slow cooker. You can cook pretty much all of the Thanksgiving classic side dishes in your Crockpot. I’ve shared many of my favorites in the past including:
- Crockpot Cheesy Corn
- Crock Pot Mashed Potatoes or Crockpot Cheesy Potatoes
- Slow Cooker Glazed Carrots
- Crock Pot Corn Casserole
- Slow Cooker Green Bean Casserole
If you had enough slow cookers, you could make the entire meal in them! I love making Slow Cooker Turkey Breast too.
CROCKPOT SWEET POTATOES
Besides the taste, one of the best things about slow cooker sweet potatoes (or slow cooker yams, depending on what you like to call them) is how easy they are to make.
This is a simple side dish where you can dump everything in the Crockpot and let it cook while you prepare other side dishes or work on that beautiful ham or turkey!
SWEET POTATO CROCK POT RECIPE
This recipe takes about 10-15 minutes to prepare and about four hours of cook time on the low setting. It makes five servings and depending on the size of your slow cooker, you can easily double the recipe.
To make this easy Crockpot sweet potato casserole recipe you need a simple list of ingredients:
- Sweet potatoes
- Butter
- Heavy Cream
- Eggs
- Brown Sugar
- Cinnamon
- Marshmallows
Exact measurements are listed in the recipe card at the end of the post.
CAN I USE CANNED SWEET POTATOES/YAMS?
Absolutely! I’ll be honest and admit that about half the time, I used the canned ones. It makes the prep time quicker.
If you use raw sweet potatoes you do need to cook them before you add them to the Crockpot. To get started, peel and cube the sweet potatoes.
Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the sweet potatoes until they’re tender. Mash them and add them to the crock of the slow cooker.
If you’re using canned sweet potatoes, you’ll need 1 (29 oz) can of yams. Mash them and add them to the Crockpot.
Mix in the butter, heavy cream, eggs, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir until all of the ingredients are combined.
Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook for 4 hours on LOW.
Right before you’re ready to serve your Crock Pot sweet potato casserole with marshmallows, add the marshmallows in a layer on top of the casserole.
Put the lid back on the Crockpot and allow to cook for 3 to 5 more minutes or until the marshmallows begin to melt. Serve immediately.
If you need to make a bigger batch of sweet potatoes, feel free to double the ingredients and make sure you have a large enough slow cooker to make them!
I highly recommend that you make Slow Cooker Sweet Potatoes for Thanksgiving this year! It’s the perfect side dish for your holiday meal!
