Recipe FAQs
Can I use whipped cream instead of Cool Whip?
You can swap in the same amount of whipped cream. Cool Whip can provide a bit more structure to the pie filling. If you do want to substitute whipped cream, you may need a bit more. I recommend having up to 3 cups to use.
How do I toast the coconut for decoratingย the pie?
Spread the coconut flakes on a baking sheet and bake at 325ยฐF for a few minutes, stirring often until golden brown. Watch closely so they donโt burn.
Can I make my own graham cracker crumbs?
Yes, you can crush your own graham crackers to make the crumbs. Theyโre not a special ingredient. Put them in a zipper bag and use a rolling pin to crush them. You can also use a food processor if you have one.
Can I subsitute Rum for the rum extract?
Yes, if you want to make this a boozy pie, you can use 3 tablespoons of Rum.
What else can I subsitute for the rum extract?
If youโre not a fan of rum flavor, you can also use a teaspoon of vanilla extract or coconut extract instead of the rum extract.
