Why I Love Orange Fluff Salad

    • This orange salad recipe doesnโ€™t require any baking and doesnโ€™t take very much time to prep. You just mix a few ingredients together and you have a dessert ready in minutes. This makes it a great recipe for getting kids in the kitchen to learn and help out.
    • This orange fluff recipe uses simple items like pudding mix, Jello mix, Cool Whip, pineapple, mandarin oranges, and mini marshmallows which are easy to find at any grocery store.
    • Orange fluff salad is also easy to customize. You can mix in extras like coconut, fruit, or swap nuts to suit your tastes or dietary needs.
    • Because itโ€™s so easy to make, itโ€™s great for potlucks, family gatherings, picnics, or as a simple weeknight dessert. This makes it a good recipe to have on hand for all seasons and holidays.

    What is a Fluff Salad?

Fluff salad is a sweet, creamy dessert salad thatโ€™s made with whipped topping, pudding or jello mix, fruit, and mix-ins such as mini marshmallows, nuts, and shredded coconut. Some popular types of fluff salads are thisย Watergate salad, ambrosia salad, and strawberry or cranberry fluff.

Itโ€™s often served as dessert or a side dish. You might know it by names like orange jello salad or fruit fluff salad.

What Are the Ingredients for Orange Fluff Salad

This Orange Fluff recipeโ€™s ingredient list is super simple. Theyโ€™re all common and you should have no trouble finding them when youโ€™re shopping.

    • Orange Jell-o mix
    • Water
    • Vanilla pudding mix
    • Frozen whipped topping (Cool Whip)
    • Crushed pineapple
    • Mandarin oranges
    • Miniature marshmallows

Full measurements for each ingredient can be found in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Youโ€™ll also need a few things from the kitchen:

    • Large mixing bowl
    • Whisk
    • Silicone spatula
    • Measuring cups
    • Serving bowl

    Step By Step Instructions

This recipe makes 8 servings. It takes about 10 minutes of prep time and 30 minutes of chill time that will be broken up into two phases. You can also add additional chill time once itโ€™s prepared.

Step 1.ย Whisk together the orange gelatin powder and boiling water in a large bowl and stir until the gelatin is dissolved.

Step 2.ย Add the cold water and stir to mix.

Step 3.ย Place the bowl in the refrigerator to chill for around 15 minutes until the Jello is soft set.

Step 5.ย Return the bowl to the refrigerator to chill for another 15 minutes until thickened.

Steps to make mandarin orange jello salad

Step 6.ย Gently fold in the whipped topping, crushed pineapple, oranges, and mini marshmallows into the mixture.

Step 7.ย Top with more marshmallows and mandarin oranges. Serve immediately or chill until ready to serve.

    Leftovers & Storage

You can cover any leftover green fluff with plastic wrap (or put it in an airtight container) and keep it up in the refrigerator for up to three days. When serving leftovers, gently stir the fluff before serving again.

    Tips & Tricks

    • Be sure to dissolve the Jello completely. Using the whisk will help it dissolve. You donโ€™t want any gummy bits to be left in your fluff.
    • Make sure that your whipped topping is thawed so that it will mix in smoothly. Be sure to use Cool Whip and not just whipped cream. They have different textures and ithe texture wonโ€™t be quite right if you donโ€™t use whipped topping.
    • You can use sugar free Cool Whip if you would like. You can also use sugar free canned fruit.
    • You can also garnish this fluff salad with maraschino cherries for an extra pop of color.
    • You can also serve this as a dip. If you want to use it as a dip, I recommend leaving out the marshmallows. You can skip them completely or you can use a bit of marshmallow fluff. Itโ€™s a delicious dip for cookies and fruit!
