    Paint Chip Christmas Tree Craft

This Paint Chip Christmas Tree craft is one of my favorites because it’s a great one for the entire family. It’s easy to set up with a very simple list of materials. Oh, and it packs a ton of holiday cute factor!

    PAINT CHIP CHRISTMAS TREE CRAFT

This started out as a Christmas tree craft for preschoolers when I was teaching but it really does work for kids of all ages. It’s a great activity to do during the early days of winter break or on Christmas Eve.

If your kids are like mine, they love the paint chip samples at the hardware store. When we go to Home Depot to get something, I always let them each pick out a few. But when it comes to the holidays, they’re great crafting materials!

    Paint Chip Christmas Tree Craft

For paint chip Christmas Trees, you need any kind of green paint chip cards. I like the ones that have multiple shades of the color on the strip. I also love that you can make a couple of different trees using different green paint chips!

    PAINT CHIP CHRISTMAS TREE MATERIALS

    • Green paint chips (available at any Home Depot, Lowes, or other locally-owned hardware store)
    • Glue stick (or hot glue gun)
    • Wine corks (you can also save up your own!)
    • Small paring knife (adult assistance required)
    • Multi-colored buttons

I love using buttons on these trees but you can use any small craft item you can glue on the paint chips. Sequins, pom-poms, gems, etc. You can even use stickers (which is a great way to take this craft on the go with you)!

Also, if you don’t want to deal with the knife, you can skip the wine cork trunk on the trees and just do a triangle tree with decorations on it.

HOW TO MAKE CHRISTMAS PAINT CHIP TREE

    1. Cut the green paint chips into triangles.

    2. If you want your trees to have trunks, use the paring knife to gently saw a small slit into the top of the wine cork and slide the tree into place.

Cut cork on the bottom of a green triangle to make a tree shape

    3. Glue buttons on the “tree” using the glue stick.

You can also use a low-temperature glue gun but make sure there is adult supervision if you choose to use one.

    4. Glue a yellow ‘star’ button on top of the tree. (If your child insists on the star looking like a star, you can also cut one out of construction paper. Or color white paper yellow and cut one out. Yes, I learned this trick from experience.)

    5. Repeat for as many trees as you would like.

These would make a great addition to a holiday table setting and are also a fun craft idea for classroom parties. They’re also good fine motor skills practice for younger kids but the older kids can get creative too!
