I started with a lot of frozen foods in my air fryer but then I branched out and started making homemade versions. Learning how to make homemade taquitos in the air fryer was a game changer. These are so good and theyโ€™re great for easy snacks, game day snacks, appetizer, and even work as a main dish (and great alternative or addition to Taco Tuesday)!

You donโ€™t need the mess of frying to get homemade taquitos. Air fryer taquitos come out crispy and golden without the mess or hassle of oil frying!

    Why Youโ€™ll Love This Recipe

    • Quick cooking time.ย The majority of the time in this recipe is in prep time to make the filling and fill the taquitos. Once you start air frying, theyโ€™re quick and easy to make. This makes them great for an easy snack or meal. You can even prep them ahead of time and have them on hand to cook whenever you want!
    • Tweak to your tastes. This recipe works with pretty much any taquito filling your craving. I filled these with taco meat but you could do chicken taquitos, steak, pork, or even just bean and cheese taquitos. You can also top them and dip them in your favorite salsa.

    • Air Fryer

Taco meat for air fryer taquitos filling

    Step By Step Directions

This recipe makes about 20 taquitos (depending on how many tortillas you have). It takes about 15 minutes to prep the filling and 6-8 minutes cooking time.

Step 1.ย Brown the ground beef in saute pan over medium heat. Drain.

Step 2. Add the tomatoes with green chilies, taco seasoning and water. Cook until the liquid is reduced.>/div>

Step 3. Heat the corn tortillas by wrapping them in damp paper towels and putting them in the microwave for a few seconds.

Step 4. Spread a thin layer of refried beans along the center of each tortilla.

Step 5. Top the beans with ground beef and cheese, then tightly roll the tortilla around the filling.

Step 6. Preheat the air fryer to 400โ„‰. If your air fryer doesnโ€™t have a preheat setting, just set it to cook for 5 minutes to warm it up.

Step 7. Place the taquitos in the basket of the air fryer, making sure they arenโ€™t touching.

Step 8. Spray the taquitos with nonstick cooking spray and cook for 6 to 8 minutes, until the tortillas are crispy and golden brown.

Step 9. Continue cooking in batches until all the ground beef has been used.

Step 10.ย Serve warm with your favorite toppings and salsa.

    Taquitos Toppings

Try serving your taquitos with a variety of toppings:

    • Guacamole
    • Sour Cream
    • Salsa
    • Cheese
    • Shredded Lettuce
    • Diced Tomatoes
    • Cilantro
    • Jalapenos
    • Black Olives
    • Hot Sauce
    • Avocado Slices
    • Green Onions
    • Refried Beans/Black beans
    • Mexican Crema
    • Lime Wedges

    Leftovers Storage & Reheating

    • Leftover taquitos can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
    • You can also freeze them in zipper freezer bags for up to 2 months. I recommend freezing the taquitos before air frying them and then using the air fryer to cook them when youโ€™re ready to enjoy them.
    • To reheat taquitos, heat the air fryer to 400โ„‰ and cook them for 3-5 minutes or until heated all the way through. Keep a close eye on them so you donโ€™t overcook them while reheating.

    Tips & Tricks

    • Spraying the homemade taquitos in air fryer with nonstick cooking spray helps them really crisp up. You can also brush them lightly with olive oil, if you prefer.
    • Preheating the air fryer also helps you get crispier taquitos!
    • Wrap the tortillas tightly and place them seam side down so the taquitos donโ€™t open up in the air fryer.
