The ingredient list for this recipe might look long, but everything is simple and easy to find. You might have a lot of it in your refrigerator and pantry already!

    Hereโ€™s what you need:

    • Hard boiled large eggs
    • Pickle relish
    • Mayonnaise
    • Sour cream
    • Yellow mustard
    • White vinegar
    • Tabasco sauce (this can be left out if you donโ€™t like heat at all)
    • Dill or parsley
    • Chives
    • Salt and pepper
    • Crackers, chips, fresh veggies, etc. for dipping

Full measurements for each ingredient can be found in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Youโ€™ll also need a few pieces of kitchen equipment:

Grating egg for devil egg dip

    Step By Step Directions

This recipe makes 8 servings and takes about 10 minutes prep time. This prep time does not include the time needed to hard boil your eggs. If you need some easy ways to make hard-boiled eggs, tryย Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs,ย Microwave Hard Boiled Eggs, orย Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs.

Once you have your hard boiled eggs, youโ€™re ready to make Devil Egg Dip! You can use warm or cooled eggs. I prefer to use chilled eggs but thatโ€™s because traditional deviled eggs are served cool.

Step 1.ย Peel the eggs and then grate the eggs (whites and yolks) using the large holes on a box grater.

Mixing bowl with mashed hard boiled egg in it and a fork

Step 2.ย Add the eggs to the bowl and lightly mash them with a fork.

Step 4.ย Serve with crackers or vegetables for dipping.

    Variations

There are so many ways to customize this hard boiled egg dip and change up the taste. You can try different variations depending on ingredients you might have on hand.

    • Different mustard varietiesย โ€“ you can try Dijon mustard, honey mustard, spicy brown mustard, hot mustard, or stone ground mustard to see how they change up the deviled egg flavor.
    • Add savoryย โ€“ try adding bacon bits or avocado.
    • Spice it upย โ€“ add diced jalapenos, cayenne pepper, or extra hot sauce.
    • Southern flavorย โ€“ make this egg dip Southern style by adding some pimento peppers and a bit of paprika.
    • Try different garnishes โ€“ย garnishes can add some extra flavor to the dip so try a variety like chives, fresh dill, chopped parsley, bacon bits, sliced green onions, toasted breadcrumbs, sliced red onion, a drizzle of hot sauce, crumbled blue cheese, or capers.

    Serving Suggestions

You can serve this dip with your favorite dippers. Here are some ideas:

    • Crackers
    • Breadsticks
    • Pita chips
    • Crostini
    • Baby carrots
    • Cucumber slices
    • Bell peppers
    • Celery sticks

You can also use this dip as a spread. It is delicious on toast and on burgers.

    Leftovers & Storage

If you have any leftover dip, you can store it in an airtight container in thefridge for three days. When you get the leftovers out to enjoy, stir the dip before serving.

    Tips & Tricks

    • To make this recipe even easier, buy the peeled hard boiled eggs you can get at the store.
    • You can also use a food processor to make this recipe. If you decide to use one, you can slice up the hard boiled eggs and pulse them to chop them up. Then add the relish, mayo, and sour cream and pulse until mixed. Then add the remaining ingredients and pulse until smooth.
