As Iโve gotten older, Iโve fallen in love with a lot of things I didnโt like when I was younger. For me, itโs things like swiss cheese, goat cheese, and blue cheese! Learning to make Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing has been an easy and delicious addition to my kitchen!
This recipe will make a dressing that is creamy and tangy. Itโs perfect for salads, dipping veggies, buffalo wings, and steak!

Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing
At first, I thought making blue cheese dressing would be too difficult so I never even tried. But Iโve gotten a little braver over the years and discovered itโs really pretty simple.
Why Youโll Love this Recipe
- Itโs so fresh! When you make blue cheese dressing at home, youโre using fresh ingredients. This means the flavors really pop in a way that store bought dressing canโt quite hit.
- Customize it to your taste! This is another thing I really love about this recipe. You can make it as strong or mild as you like. You can also control how chunk it is, so you can a texture and flavor that you love.
- Such a versatile recipe. I love this recipe because blue cheese dressing is great on salads, of course. But itโs also one of the best dips out there. So you can make a batch and use it for all sorts of things!
Once you learn how to make this recipe, I think youโll love making it again and again because it is so easy to customize.

- Flavor Enhancements: Add herbs like chives or parsley for an extra flavor kick.
- Sweet or Tangy: Add a touch of honey or apple cider vinegar to balance flavors.
- Easy Swap: Swap out plain greek yogurt for the mayo and get a protein boost!

Serving Suggestions
You can obviously use this dressing on your favorite salad. I love swapping it when I would use ranch dressing for extra flavor.
Salad Ideas
- Wedge Salad: Cut a crisp iceberg wedgeand top it with blue cheese dressing, crispy bacon bits, cherry tomatoes, and red onion slices for a simple yet flavorful dish.
- Buffalo Chicken Salad: Put spicy buffalo chicken strips on a bed of romaine lettuce, with celery, carrots, and then add a generous drizzle of blue cheese dressing.
- Spinach and Pear Salad: Mix fresh spinach leaves with sliced pears, candied pecans, and a sprinkle of crumbled blue cheese. Then top with the blue cheese dressing.
Itโs great with classic chicken wings, carrots, and celery too!
Dip & Spread Ideas
Try it as a dip with some of our favorite recipes:
- Buffalo Panko Chicken Strips
- Crispy Baked Green Beans
- Air Fryer Carrot Fries
- Air Fryer Chicken Wings
Try it as a sandwich spread too:
- Sandwiches: Spread blue cheese dressing on your favorite deli sandwich. I love it on roast beef!
- Burgers: You can also top your burgers with a layer of blue cheese dressing instead of the usual condiments.
Or drizzle it on your favorite foods:
- Roasted Vegetables: Drizzle blue cheese dressing over roasted vegetables like Brussels sprouts, potatoes, or broccoli. Itโs delicious!
- Pizza: After baking, drizzle a bit of blue cheese dressing over your pizza to add some extra flavor.

Leftovers/Storage
Homemade blue cheese dressing doesnโt last as long as store-bought salad dressing because it doesnโt have any preservatives. It will last for about a week in the refrigerator.
Store any leftover blue cheese dressing in an airtight container in a cold part of your refrigerator (I donโt recommend putting it in the door of the fridge).
If the dressing starts to smell sour or separates, then you know that itโs not good anymore.

I love this dressing but I’ve found after one day in the fridge, it thins out almost to a mild consistency…..I end up throwing it out. I do use lower fat sour cream and wonder if that is causing it….
