    Recipe Variations

You can also add additional mix-ins and toppings to change up the tastes of the basic toffee recipe. Here are some things to try:

    • Sprinkle sea salt flakes on top of the caramel and toffee bits for salted caramel flavor.
    • For extra flavor you can also blend in some vanilla extract and brown sugar.
    • Add mini chocolate chips or drizzle chocolate sauce over the dip.
    • Mix creamy peanut butter into the base cream cheese mixture.
    • Add 1โ€“2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice to the cream cheese mixture. Then use cinnamon toffee bits or sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top.
    • Top the dip with chopped pecans, walnuts, or almonds. Or fold crushed nuts into the cream cheese mixture.
    • Substitute the caramel sauce with butterscotch sauce and top with butterscotch chips instead of toffee bits.

    Leftovers & Storage

You can keep this dip or any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.

    Tips & Tricks

    • You can layer this cream cheese apple dip as done in the recipe steps, but you can also just mix together the cream cheese and powdered sugar then fold in the toffee bits and serve in a bowl.
    • Let the cream cheese sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before mixing. This will help you to get a smooth and lump-free mixture.
    • You can use a stand mixer or a hand mixer to blend the cream cheese and powdered sugar together. If you donโ€™t have either, you can just use a spatula or mixing spoon. It will just take a bit more work on your part.
    • You can also use any crushed candy bars in place of the toffee bits. This makes it a great recipe for using up leftover Halloween candy! Some of my favorites are Snickers, M&Ms, Butterfingers, and Reeseโ€™s Pieces. It also makes a great appetizer at Halloween and Thanksgiving get togethers.
