What I love most about this Halloween trail mix is how the kids can help with the fun parts like dipping the witch hat Bugles and mixing everything together, and youโ€™ll have something that looks like you spent way more time on it than you actually did. Plus, it makes a huge batch thatโ€™s perfect for sharing with neighbors or bringing to Halloween gatherings.

    Ingredients & Equipment

Hereโ€™s what youโ€™ll need to make this delicious Halloween snack mix:

    • Bugles
    • Black candy melts
    • Orange candy melts
    • Star sprinkles
    • Chex Mix Muddy Buddies (You can also make your own Muddy Buddies with our easy recipe!)
    • Reeseโ€™s minis
    • Reeseโ€™s Pieces
    • Flipz chocolate covered pretzels
    • Caramel Crunch โ€˜n Munch
    • Brachโ€™s Autumn Mix candy corn

Full measurements for each ingredient can be found in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Youโ€™ll also need a few things from your kitchen:

    • Large bowl
    • Parchment paper
    • Piping bag
    • Microwave-safe bowls
    • Scissors

    Step By Step Directions

This recipe makes 12 servings. It takes 10 minutes of prep time.

Step 1. Melt the black candy according to the package instructions.

Step 2. Dip each Bugle in the melted candy to coat, then transfer to a piece of parchment paper to cool.

Step 3. When the black chocolate has hardened, melt the orange candy according to the package instructions. Transfer the melted candy to a piping bag and cut the tip off the bag.

Step 4. Pipe a line along the bottom of each chocolate covered Bugle, then press one star sprinkle into the chocolate while itโ€™s still soft.

Step 5. Allow the orange candy to harden completely, then transfer all the witch hats to a large bowl.

Step 6. Add all the remaining ingredients to the bowl and stir to mix.

    Variations

    • Try using white candy melts instead of black for ghost-themed Bugles or do both!
    • Add Halloween colored M&Ms for extra pops of orange and black.
    • Mix in some salted peanuts or cashews for more crunch.
    • Use different shaped sprinkles like bats or pumpkins instead of stars.
    • Make it even more spooky by adding gummy worms or Halloween gummies.
    • Create individual serving bags tied with orange and black ribbons for party favors.

    Leftovers & Storage

Store your Halloween Snack Mix in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. The mix actually stays fresh and crunchy for several days, making it perfect for making ahead of time for parties. Just make sure the container seals well so nothing gets stale.

    Tips & Tricks

    • Let the black candy harden completely before adding the orange details or they might smudge.
    • Cut the piping bag tip small at first, you can always make it bigger if needed.
    • Work quickly when adding the star sprinkles to the orange candy before it hardens.
    • If you donโ€™t have a piping bag, you can use a zippered sandwich bag and clip the corner.
    • Make extra witch hats because theyโ€™re so cute and everyone will want more.
    • Mix gently to avoid breaking the decorated Bugles.

    Recipe FAQs

Can I make this monster munch ahead of time?

Absolutely! This Halloween party mix is actually perfect for making a day or two ahead. Just store it in an airtight container and it will stay fresh and crunchy.

What if I canโ€™t find all these specific ingredients?

You can substitute any of the mix-ins with similar Halloween colored candies or snacks. The key is having a good balance of sweet, salty, and crunchy elements.

Do I have to make the witch hat Bugles?

The witch hats are what make this mix extra special, but you could skip them and just add plain Bugles if youโ€™re short on time. The mix will still be delicious!

Can I use different candy melts colors?

Yes! Try purple and green for a different Halloween look, or even use all orange candy melts if thatโ€™s what you have on hand.

How far ahead can I make the witch hats?

You can make the decorated Bugles up to 3 days ahead and store them in an airtight container until youโ€™re ready to mix everything together.

Whatโ€™s the best way to package this for gifts?

Individual cellophane bags tied with Halloween ribbon make perfect party favors, or you can fill mason jars for a cute homemade gift.
