What I love most about these nutter butter mummies is how simple they really are, but they look so impressive that everyone thinks you spent way more time on them than you actually did. The kids get so excited about placing the candy eyeballs and watching you drizzle the โ€œbandages,โ€ and youโ€™ll love how these nutter butter halloween treats come together so quickly for classroom parties, trick-or-treaters, or just because.

    Mummy nutter butter cookies

    Ingredients & Equipment

Hereโ€™s what youโ€™ll need to make these delicious mummy cookies:

    • Nutter Butter cookies
    • White chocolate melting wafers
    • Candy eyeballs

Full measurements for each ingredient can be found in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Youโ€™ll also need a few things from your kitchen:

    • Measuring cup
    • Small bowl
    • Piping bag
    • Scissors
    • Baking sheet
    • Parchment paper

    Step By Step Directions

This recipe makes 6 servings. It takes 15 minutes of prep time and 20 minutes of down time.

Step 1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2. Add half the melting wafers to a small bowl and heat in the microwave for 30 second intervals, stirring between each heating session, until fully melted.

Step 3. Dip one side and the edges of a Nutter Butter into the melted candy, then set on the baking sheet.

Step 4. Top with two candy eyeballs. Allow to set before moving onto the next step.

Step 5. Add the remaining melting wafers to a piping bag and heat in the microwave for 30 second intervals, gently massaging the bag between each heating session, until fully melted.

Step 6. Snip off the very end and drizzle melted candy over the coated Nutter Butters to resemble a โ€œmummyโ€.

    Variations

    • Skip the drizzling step and just dip them completely in white chocolate to make adorable Nutter Butter ghosts.
    • Use orange melting wafers instead for pumpkin-themed cookies.
    • Add mini chocolate chips for a spooky face instead of candy eyeballs.
    • Try using different colored candy eyeballs for a fun twist.
    • Make them extra spooky by using red melting wafers for bloody mummy bandages.
    • Double or triple the recipe for Halloween classroom parties.

    Leftovers & Storage

Store your Nutter Butter mummy cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. The white chocolate coating actually helps keep the cookies fresh longer, and theyโ€™re perfect for making ahead for Halloween parties since they transport so easily without getting messy.

    Tips & Tricks

    • Make sure to let each layer set completely before adding the drizzle or the โ€œbandagesโ€ might slide off.
    • Donโ€™t overheat the chocolate or it will get clumpy and wonโ€™t melt smoothly.
    • Cut just a tiny hole in the piping bag at first since you can always make it bigger for thicker lines.
    • If you donโ€™t have a piping bag, you can use a zip lock sandwich bag and cut off a tiny corner for the same effect.
    • Place the candy eyeballs while the chocolate is still slightly wet so they stick properly.
    • Work quickly once the chocolate is melted since it starts to thicken as it cools.

    Recipe FAQs

Can I use regular chocolate chips instead of melting wafers?

Melting wafers work much better because theyโ€™re designed to melt smoothly and set properly. Regular chocolate chips contain stabilizers that make them harder to work with for coating.

What if I donโ€™t have a piping bag?

You can use a zip lock bag and cut off a tiny corner, or even drizzle with a spoon, though the piping bag gives you the most control for neat lines.

How far ahead can I make these?

You can make these up to 3 days ahead and store them in an airtight container. They actually get even better as the flavors settle together.

Can I use different cookies instead of Nutter Butters?

Absolutely! Oreos make great mummies too, or you can use any oval-shaped cookie. The peanut shape of Nutter Butters just works perfectly for the mummy look.

What if my chocolate gets too thick while Iโ€™m working?

Just pop it back in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to warm it up again. Donโ€™t overheat it or it might seize.

    Can kids help make these?

Definitely! Kids love placing the eyeballs and can help with the dipping step. Just keep them away from the hot melted chocolate and let them help with the fun decorating parts.
