Yes, homemade pudding works in this recipe. Just make sure that itโ€™s fully cooled before spreading it in the crust.

How long does the dessert need to chill before serving?
Chill the pie for at least 4 hours so it sets and slices cleanly.

Can I make this recipe ahead of time?
Yes, this recipe is perfect for preparing a day in advance and storing in the fridge.

Is this recipe suitable for kids to help make?
Itโ€™s perfect for making with the kids because itโ€™s simple and fun to make. Plus, thereโ€™s no baking or sharp tools involved.

    Recipe Ingredients

    • Oreos
    • Butter
    • Cream cheese
    • Powdered sugar
    • Whipped topping (Cool Whip)
    • White chocolate instant pudding mix

Full measurements for each ingredient can be found in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

    Equipment

Youโ€™ll also need a few things from your kitchen:

    • Large mixing bowl
    • Whisk
    • Silicone spatula
    • Measuring spoons
    • Measuring cups

    Step By Step Directions

This recipe makes 12 servings. It takes about 20 minutes to prepare and then needs at least 2 hours of chill time before serving.

Step 1. Use a food processor or a zipper bag and rolling pin to crush the entire package of Oreo cookies into crumbs.

Step 2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Then mix the Oreo crumbs in with the butter until well-combined.

Step 3. Press the crumb mixture into the bottom of a 9ร—13 glass baking dish to form a crust for the Oreo pie.

Step 4. Put the baking dish in the refrigerator to cook while you make the other layers.

Step 5. Use the electric mixer to beat the cream cheese until itโ€™s smooth.

Step 6. Add the powdered sugar to the cream cheese and mix well.

Step 7. Gently fold one container of Cool Whip into the mixture until well blended. If you want to add color to your dessert, add a few drops of food coloring into the mixture.

Step 8. Spread the mixture over the top of the Oreo crust.

Step 9. Whisk together the instant pudding mix and milk. Allow to sit for about 5 minutes so it can thicken and set.

Step 10. Spread the pudding over the cream cheese layer.

Step 11. Then spread the remaining container of Cool Whip over the top of the pudding later.

Step 12. Cover and chill for at least 4 hours before serving.

    Leftovers & Storage

Cover leftovers with plastic wrap or foil and keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. If the plastic wrap is trying to stick to the top of the pie, you can put a few toothpicks in the dessert to hold the wrap up off of the top of it.

    Variations

The great thing about this Oreo pudding dessert is that you can easily tweak it to make it work for any occasion. Try some of these ideas:

    • Swap the pudding.ย Try making it with vanilla or chocolate instant pudding.
    • Change the color. You can also color the cream cheese layer any color or leave it without any food coloring. If youโ€™re making this for the holidays, red and green are great choices. Itโ€™s also a great dessert for Halloween and you can make the cream cheese layer orange.
    • Choose your toppings. You can leave the final layer alone and have a smooth top or you can top it! Save some of the Oreo crumbs and add them to the top for an extra layer. You can also top it with other toppings like sprinkles and mini chocolate chips.
    • Festive treat.ย Because this Oreo lasagna is so easy to make, itโ€™s great for holidays. You can make it ahead of time and take one thing off of your to do list in the kitchen. You can tweak the flavors too. For Christmas, try a peppermint twist. You can use peppermint oreos, color the cream cheese layer red/pink, and top the Oreo pie with crushed candy canes. For Halloween, use leftover candy bars in the pudding layer to add extra flavor. Itโ€™s also cute with Halloween themed sprinkles.
