    Ingredients

The ingredient list for Fourth of July pretzels includes pretty common ingredients and you should be able to find everything at your local grocery store. If you canโ€™t find candy melts at the grocery store, you can find them at Michaels or online. Hereโ€™s what you need to get:

    • Pretzel rods
    • Red candyย  melts
    • Blue candy melts
    • White candy melts or vanilla almond bark
    • Red white and blue sprinkles

The exact measurements for each ingredient can be found in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.

    Equipment

Youโ€™ll also need a things from the kitchen to decorate the pretzel rods.

    • Baking sheet
    • Parchment paper
    • Microwave-safe bowl (one for each color)
    • Spoon (one for each color)
    • Measuring cups

Ingredients to make red white and blue pretzel rods

    Step By Step Directions

This recipe makes 12 pretzels. It takes 15-20 minutes of prep time and decorating time. Then they need 15-20 minutes to set up and harden.

Step 1.ย  Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to put your finished pretzels on.

Step 2.ย Next put a ยฝ cup of candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Use the 50% power or on the defrost setting on the microwave and microwave in 30 second increments, stirring between each one. You want the candy melts to be completely melted and smooth.

Step 3.ย One at a time, dip 4 pretzel rods in the red melted candy. Cover at least half of the pretzel. You can tilt the bowl and use a spoon to help coat the pretzels.

Step 4. Shake off any excess candy melt off of the pretzel rod and then set on the parchment paper.

Step 5. While the melted candy is still wet, sprinkle each pretzel with sprinkles. You can either sprinkle them by hand or roll them in sprinkles in a bowl for a more coated look.

Step 6. Repeat with the blue candy melts and the white candy melts to coat the rest of the pretzels.

Step 7.ย Allow the pretzels to sit at room temperature until the candy melts harden. This should take 10-20 minutes.

Step 8. Serve the pretzels once the candy melts have set. If not serving immediately, you can store them in an airtight container or zipper storage bag at room temperature. Keeping them at room temperature will help prevent the pretzels from becoming soft.

    Leftovers & Storage

You can store leftover patriotic pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.

    Tips & Tricks

    • Be sure to line your baking sheet with parchment paper to make clean up easier.
    • Be sure to add the sprinkles before the candy melts set so they will stick.
    • You can also use different kinds of pretzels to make these. Try pretzel twists or pretzel snaps for variety.
    • This recipe also works great for other holidays. Candy melts come in tons of different colors. Try red, green, and white for Christmas or red, pink and white for Valentineโ€™s Day. Orange, black, purple and lime green are fun for Halloween. Fall colors also work great for the month of October and Thanksgiving.
