Why This Red White and Blue Candy is a Keeper

    • This is a no bake dessert that only takes minutes to put together. Itโ€™s great to make ahead of time so you can spend your time on other things. Plus no bake means you donโ€™t have to heat up the kitchen.
    • The red, white, and blue colors make it perfect for celebrations like the Fourth of July or Memorial Day. Itโ€™s so festive and is a simple enough recipe that you can tweak it to use for different holidays too.
    • You can mix in your favorite candies, sprinkles, or dried fruits to match your familyโ€™s taste.
    • The kids can be involved in helping make this candy bark. With adult supervision they can help drizzle the candy melts and chocolate. On their own they can add the candy and sprinkles.

Ingredients to make red white and blue candy bark

    Ingredients

The ingredient list for 4th of July bark includes pretty common ingredients and you should be able to find everything at your local grocery store. Hereโ€™s what you need to get:

    • White chocolate chips
    • Semi-sweet chocolate chips
    • Red candy melts
    • Blue candy melts
    • Red white and blue sprinkles
    • Red white and blue M&Ms

If you canโ€™t find candy melts at your grocery store, you can find them at stores like Michaels.

Exact measurements can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

    Equipment

You will also need a few things from your kitchen:

    • Baking sheet
    • Parchment paper
    • Microwave-safe bowl
    • Silicone spatula
    • Measuring cups
    • Measuring spoons
    • Spoon
    • Toothpick

    Step By Step Directions

This recipe makes about 12 servings. It takes 15 minutes to prepare and then you need at least 2 hours of setting time for it to harden.

Step 1. Line the baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2.ย Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second increments, stirring between each one until theyโ€™re melted.

Step 3.ย Pour the melted chocolate in an even layer on the baking sheet. Smooth with a silicone spatula. Allow the layer to cool and harden. You can put the baking sheet in the refrigerator to speed up this step.

Step 4.ย Melt the white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second increments, stirring between each one until theyโ€™re melted.

Step 5. Pour the melted white chocolate in an even layer on top of the semi-sweet chocolate layer. Allow it to cool and harden.

Step 6.ย In separate microwave-safe bowls, melt the red, white, and blue candy melts. Use a spoon to drizzle each color over the white chocolate layer.

Step 7.ย Before the candy melts layer hardens, use a toothpick to swirl the colors.

Step 8. Sprinkle the red, white, and blue sprinkles and M&Ms across the top of the bark while the candy melts are still slightly soft so they stick in the candy bark.

Step 9.ย Allow the sheet of bark to cool and harden completely.

Step 10. Once the bark has hardened, lift it out of the baking sheet using the parchment paper. Break it into pieces and enjoy!

    Leftovers & Storage

You can store leftover red white and blue candy bark in an airtight container at room temperature or in the fridge for up to a week.

    Variations

You can make some simple swaps and add some mix-ins to change up this recipe. Here are some ideas:

    • You can use dark or milk chocolate chips as the base. I like to use semi-sweet because theyโ€™re a bit less sweet and the candy melts can be pretty sweet.
    • If you canโ€™t find patriotic colored M&Ms, you can pick red and blue out of a bag of regular M&Ms. You can also swap out the M&Ms for other candy that you like.
    • Add nuts like almonds, pecans, or pistachios for crunch.
    • Mix in crushed pretzels or cookies for extra texture.
    • You can also change up the color of the candy melts, sprinkles, and M&Ms to make this candy bark recipe work for any holiday. Use red, green, and white for Christmas. Try pink and red for Valentineโ€™s Day. Black, orange, purple, and lime green work great for Halloween. You can even use this candy bark recipe for Game Day by using your favorite teams colors.

    Tips & Tricks

    • Be sure to line your baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make clean up easier.
    • Gently press larger toppings into the melted chocolate to make sure they are secure.
    • Use a sharp knife or your hands to break bark into pieces once set. If you want really straight cuts, try using a pizza cutter.
