What makes this recipe so easy is that you donโ€™t need any special skills or fancy equipment. Just melt some white chocolate, pour it over Oreos, pretzels, and candy, add some sprinkles, and let it cool. The combination of sweet and salty makes this Valentine bark disappear fast.

    Ingredients & Equipment

Youโ€™ll need these ingredients to make Valentineโ€™s Bark:

    • Oreo cookies
    • Pretzel sticks
    • Valentine M&Ms
    • Almond bark or candy melts
    • Heart sprinkles

Full measurements for each ingredient can be found in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Youโ€™ll also need a few things from your kitchen:

    • Sheet pan
    • Parchment paper
    • Measuring cup
    • Bowl
    • Spoon

    Step By Step Directions

This recipe makes 24-36 pieces. It takes 15 minutes of prep time and 1 hour of cooling time.

Step 1. Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper.

Step 2. Break Oreo cookies into smaller pieces and spread out on a baking sheet.

Step 3. Break pretzel sticks in half and sprinkle over Oreo cookies.

Step 4. Sprinkle M&Ms over cookies and pretzels.

Step 5. Over low heat, melt almond bark until smooth (or microwave according to directions on the packaging).

Step 6. Pour half over cookies, pretzels, and candy.

Step 7. Use a fork to move the almond bark around and let it soak down into between the cookie and candy mix.

Step 8. Pour the rest of the chocolate over the mixture.

    Step 9. Decorate with sprinkles.

Step 10. Place in refrigerator for an hour to cool.

Step 11. Break into pieces and enjoy!

    Variations

    • Milk Chocolate Version: Use milk chocolate almond bark instead of white chocolate for a different look
    • Dark Chocolate Bark: Swap the white chocolate for dark chocolate candy melts if you prefer less sweet
    • Peanut Butter Twist: Add Reeseโ€™s Pieces or peanut butter M&Ms along with the regular M&Ms
    • Extra Festive: Use pink and red candy melts drizzled over white chocolate for more color
    • Caramel Pretzel Bark: Replace half the pretzels with mini Rolos for a caramel twist

    Leftovers & Storage

Store leftover bark in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. You can also keep it in the refrigerator if your house is warm, but let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving so the chocolate isnโ€™t rock hard.

    Tips & Tricks

    • Break the Oreos into quarters or eighths so theyโ€™re easier to bite through when the bark is set
    • Donโ€™t skip breaking the pretzels in half or theyโ€™ll stick up too much and make it hard to spread the chocolate evenly
    • Melt the almond bark slowly over low heat and stir constantly so it doesnโ€™t burn
    • Pour the chocolate in two stages so you can work it down into all the gaps between the cookies and candy
    • Add sprinkles right away before the chocolate starts to set or they wonโ€™t stick
    • Let the bark cool completely in the fridge or it will be too soft to break into neat pieces
    • Use a sharp knife to cut the bark into squares if you want uniform pieces instead of breaking it

    Recipe FAQs

Can I use regular chocolate chips instead of almond bark?

You can, but chocolate chips donโ€™t melt as smoothly and can seize up. If you use them, add a tablespoon of coconut oil or shortening to help them melt better. Almond bark or candy melts work best for this recipe.

    What if I donโ€™t have Valentine M&Ms?

Any color M&Ms work fine, or you can use other Valentine candy like conversation hearts, mini chocolate chips, or chopped up Valentine chocolates. The pink and red just make it more festive.

How do I keep the bark from being too thick?

Spread your cookies, pretzels, and candy in a single layer on the sheet pan before pouring the chocolate. If itโ€™s piled too high, youโ€™ll end up with giant chunks that are hard to eat.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Yes! This bark keeps well for up to 2 weeks in an airtight container, so you can make it several days before Valentineโ€™s Day. Itโ€™s a great recipe for bake sales or teacher gifts.

Why is my almond bark clumpy when I melt it?

Make sure your bowl and spoon are completely dry before melting the chocolate. Even a tiny bit of water will make chocolate seize up and get grainy. If it happens, try stirring in a teaspoon of coconut oil to smooth it out.

How do I get clean breaks when cutting the bark?

Let it cool completely in the fridge until itโ€™s totally firm, then use a sharp knife to score it where you want to break it. You can also just break it into rustic pieces with your hands for a more casual look.
