What I love most about this mummy dogs recipe is how simple it is to make with kids. You only need three ingredients, and the air fryer does all the work while you focus on wrapping the hot dogs to look like adorable mummies. Theyโ€™re perfect for Halloween parties, trick-or-treat night, or anytime you want to add some fun to dinner.

    Ingredients & Equipment

Hereโ€™s what youโ€™ll need to make these mummy weenies:

    • Crescent rolls
    • Hot dogs
    • Edible eyeballs

Full measurements for each ingredient can be found in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Youโ€™ll also need a few things from your kitchen:

    • Air fryer
    • Knife or pizza cutter
    • Cutting board

    Step By Step Directions

This recipe makes 8 servings. It takes 10 minutes of prep time and 7 minutes of cook time.

Step 1. Preheat your air fryer to 350ยฐF for about 5 minutes.

Step 2. Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles.

Step 3. Using a knife or pizza cutter, slice each triangle into thin strips about 1/4 inch wide.

Step 4. Take one hot dog and start wrapping it with a crescent roll strip, leaving a small gap for the face. Continue wrapping until the hot dog is covered, resembling a mummy.

Step 5. Repeat with the remaining hot dogs and crescent roll strips.

Step 6. Place the wrapped hot dogs in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not touching each other.

Step 7. Air fry at 350ยฐF for 5-7 minutes or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and cooked through.

Step 8. Remove the mummy dogs from the air fryer and let them cool slightly.

Step 9. Place the edible eyeballs in the gap you left for the face. If needed, you can use a tiny bit of mustard or ketchup to help the eyeballs stick.

Step 10. Serve the mummy dogs warm with your favorite dipping sauces like ketchup or mustard.

    Variations

    • Use different types of hot dogs like turkey dogs, chicken sausages, or veggie dogs for dietary preferences.
    • Try mini cocktail sausages for bite-sized mummy appetizers.
    • Add a strip of cheese before wrapping for extra flavor.
    • Use puff pastry instead of crescent rolls for a flakier texture.
    • Make them spicier by using jalapeรฑo sausages.
    • Create different facial expressions by using different sized edible eyeballs.
    • Brush with garlic butter before air frying for extra flavor.

    Leftovers & Storage

Store leftover mummy hotdogs in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in an airtight container. You can reheat them in the air fryer at 300ยฐF for 2-3 minutes to crisp up the crescent roll wrapping. They taste best when served fresh and warm.

    Tips & Tricks

    • Donโ€™t wrap the crescent roll strips too tightly or they might break during cooking.
    • Leave some gaps between the strips to create that authentic mummy bandage look.
    • If your edible eyeballs wonโ€™t stick, you can use a tiny dab of cream cheese as โ€œglueโ€.
    • Make sure hot dogs are completely thawed before wrapping.
    • Donโ€™t overcrowd the air fryer basket. You want there to be room for the air to circulate. You can cook in batches if needed.
    • Let them cool for at least 2 minutes before adding eyeballs so they donโ€™t melt.
    • Pat hot dogs dry with paper towels before wrapping so the crescent rolls will stick better.
    • If your air fryer doesnโ€™t have a preheat setting, just run it empty at 350ยฐF for 5 minutes before adding your mummy dogs.

    Recipe FAQs

Can I make these mummy dogs in the oven instead of an air fryer?

Yes! Bake them at 375ยฐF for 12-15 minutes or until the crescent rolls are golden brown.

What if I canโ€™t find edible eyeballs?

You can make your own using white chocolate chips and black icing, or use small pieces of mozzarella cheese with black pepper dots.

Can I prep these ahead of time?

You can wrap the hot dogs up to 4 hours ahead and keep them covered in the refrigerator until youโ€™re ready to cook them.

Do I need to poke holes in the hot dogs first?

No, the air fryer cooks them gently enough that you donโ€™t need to poke holes like you might with other cooking methods.

Can I use a different type of dough?

Absolutely! Pizza dough cut into strips or even bacon strips work great for a different flavor.

How do I know when theyโ€™re done cooking?

The crescent roll wrapping should be golden brown and sound hollow when tapped lightly.
