Why We Love 4th of July Fruit Salad

    • This red white and blue salad is simple to make. With some adult supervision to slice the apples, this is a great recipe to use with kids in the kitchen. Theyโ€™ll have a blast using the star shaped cookie cutter to cut out pieces of apple.
    • This recipe uses fresh blueberries which are so delicious during the summer. You can also incorporate any of your favorite summer berries to pack the flavor into your fruit salad.
    • Thereโ€™s a lot of fun red white and blue recipes for Memorial Day and the 4th of July (we have a ton of them here on the site) but a lot of the sweets are things like candy and cupcakes. This is a healthy option to set out on your food table. Itโ€™s fresh and delicious.

Red white and blue salad with strawberries, blueberries, and star shaped apples

    Ingredients

The ingredient list for this fruit salad is as simple as it can be.

    • Pink lady apples (represents the white)
    • Strawberries (represents red)
    • Blueberries (represents blue)

The exact measurements for each ingredient can be found in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.

    Equipment

Youโ€™ll also need a few things from your kitchen to make red white and blue fruit salad:

    • Colander
    • Chefโ€™s knife
    • Cutting board
    • Small star shaped cookie cutter
    • Serving bowl

    Step By Step Directions

This recipe makes about 4 servings and should only take about 10 minutes to prepare this recipe.

Step 1.ย Rinse and quarter the strawberries. Put them in a large serving bowl.

Step 2.ย Wash the blueberries and then add them to the bowl. Gently mix them together with the strawberries.

Step 3. Wash the apple and then slice it. Use the star-shaped cookie cutter to cut stars out of each slice. Add them to the top of the berry salad. (You can also gently toss the stars in with the berries if youโ€™d like.)

Step 4. Chill until ready to serve.

    Leftovers & Storage

You can store any leftover Fourth of July fruit salad in an airtight container for 3-4 days in the refrigerator. The apples may start to brown a bit but you will still be able to eat it.

    Tips & Tricks

    • To keep the apples from turning brown, you can soak them in a lemon wate, salt water, sugar water, or honey water solution for a few minutes before adding them to the salad.
    • If you donโ€™t need a strictly red white and blue salad, you can add any other fresh fruits to it. Add different summer berries. You can even slice a kiwi and use the star cookie cutter to add kiwi stars. Itโ€™s a cute fruit salad for any occasion.
